The Malcontent’s Ring is used to upgrade the Finger Whistle in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. And since the Whistle is one of the better Prosthetic Tools in the game, it’s a good idea to get it as soon as possible. This is especially true if you’re struggling with Sekiro, one of FromSoftware’s toughest games. Unfortunately, there are several steps to work through before you can get the item. But here we’ll walk you through how to get Malcontent’s Ring in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – How to find the Malcontent’s Ring
Malcontent’s Ring is located in the Ashina Depths area, in the area where you fight the Headless Ape for the second time. Unfortunately, you won’t just find the item laying around in a corner. You’ll actually have to defeat the Shichimen Warrior that spawns after the Headless Ape has been dealt with. But in order to do that, you’ll also need the Mortal Blade.
So, let’s break it down in simple terms. You’ll first need to progress through the game to the point where you get the Mortal Blade. Then, you’ll need to defeat the Guardian Ape boss in Sunken Valley. Once both of these are done, you’ll find the Headless Ape in the Ashina Depths at the Guardian Ape’s Burrow. Once that fight is finished, you’ll find the Shichimen Warrior there after you leave and return to the area. Upon defeating the Shichimen Warrior, you’ll finally get the Malcontent’s Ring in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. But be warned, this fight can be very difficult if you’re not prepared.
How to defeat the Shichimen Warrior
You may have seen another Shichimen Warrior in the Bottomless Hole or Fountainhead Palace. And you’ve more than likely had some trouble against them. This is because these enemies require a slightly different approach to most other encounters in the game. They aren’t quite the toughest fights in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but they’re certainly tricky.
The Shichimen Warrior is an apparition-type mini-boss, so regular attacks will deal very little damage to them. This is where the use of Divine Confetti comes in handy, since it gives you a divine blessing for your weapon. By using it you’ll deal increased damage and get through the fight much more easily.
The Shichimen Warrior is still an extremely dangerous enemy even with Divine Confetti, though. Its terror-based attacks do a ton of damage on their own. But they also cause the terror meter to increase, and once it’s maxed out you’ll die instantly. And since Divine Confetti is a rare consumable, you do not want to be wasting these with botched attempts. So, study the Shichimen Warrior’s attacks carefully and do your best to avoid its projectiles and the numerous orbs it spawns around the arena.
The journey to getting the Malcontent’s Ring in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice isn’t exactly simple. But that’s to be expected for most FromSoftware games at the end of the day.
