In Dave the Diver, one of the most important skills to learn early on is how to get the most out of your dives. The rarest and most coveted fish are often found in the murky depths, so it pays to dive as deep as you can. The only issue with scavenging so deep is you have to worry about your air supply and the return journey. Fortunately, this is made much easier with Escape Pods. With this in mind, let me show you how to use Escape Pods in Dave the Diver.

The Escape Pod is easy to use. Hold the interact button next to one of these Phone icons (pictured above), and after a few seconds, you’ll be on your way back to the boat. Just like swimming to the surface, using an Escape Pod will end your dive. Make sure you’ve stuffed your pockets with as much as you can before calling the Pod.

Escape Pods are as simple as that, but there are some caveats to remember.

The Blue Hole is a unique, ever-changing stretch of water. A few areas integral to the story remain consistent, but the general landscape is completely different whenever you dive. Because of this, you can’t memorize Escape Pod locations for future dives. Sometimes the Sea is a cruel mistress, and you won’t find any Escape Pods at all when you need them. Thanks to the Blue Holes’ random nature, don’t dive deeper than usual, expecting an Escape Pod to be there. Instead, make a mental note of the last one you find and weigh up the options.

Another issue with Escape Pods is the Interact Timer. Dave takes about 3 seconds to prep the Escape Pod before riding it back to the surface. It’s not long, but you can be interrupted while waiting, which restarts the timer. With this situation in mind, make sure you clear the area of threats before you begin your ascent. I’ve died to a shark while waiting for an Escape Pod, and a wiser diver would defeat them first or find another way to the surface.

Are there any downsides to using Escape Pods?

Escape Pods have zero downsides and allow you to dive deeper than ever before without worrying about the swim to the surface. Use Escape Pods like underwater checkpoints. Just make sure you’ve got enough oxygen to make it back in one piece! If you’re feeling greedy, you can always overfill your inventory before using the Escape Pod; It makes you swim slower, but if you’re taking a free ride back, who cares?
