In the climax of the High on Knife DLC for High on Life, you will be taking down Muxxalon, the rich and corrupt CEO. To be fair, simply saying ‘CEO’ would have sufficed there. Anyway, to get your package and finish your quest for Knifey, you’ll have to defeat the goopy beast. You’ve come too far to let her stop you now. So, don your favorite Gatlian, and let’s get to work. Here’s how to defeat Muxxalon in High on Knife.

Muxxalon guide in High on Knife

Muxxalon is a two-stage beast of a boss. First, you’ll be fighting her in the Central Chamber, after having her punch you out from getting inside. She won’t go down without a fight. She will utilize her many goop arms to get workers to shoot at you — so you’ll be constantly evading barrages of fire. If you’re struggling to get past her many, many weapons, then read on.

Keep on your tippy toes

With her dozens of guns pinning you down through the whole fight, you’d best keep moving. You have no option but to stay mobile as she hammers you with bullets — then with the bodies of her recent victims. The most dangerous of all the attacks Muxxalon can throw your way is when she holds about half a dozen of those parasite workers who shoot the laser beams.

Those enemies will be streaking their laser beams horizontally, but with two on each level, they’ll make a crisscross. Your best bet here is either to take the damage if you’ve got armor as you can replenish it later, or to jump at the right time and keep jetpacking upwards, to evade all beams in succession.

In every scenario, I found myself jumping around, dashing, running, doing everything I could to avoid getting hit. As much as I wanted to non-stop blast her with my weapons, I had to keep evading the shots. Don’t get greedy and stick around to pile in some more shots — otherwise, you’ll be punished with many, many hits from her laid-off workforce.

If her head slides across your view while you’re dodging, shoot away! You can’t wait for every bit of respite to shoot. And besides, with the following tip, you may get away with being greedy with your hits. This isn’t Dark Souls, after all.

Keep your armor up!

Thankfully, we were taught early in High on Knife that the parasites drop armor boosts when killed. It worked for the giant green fella, and it works here. Upon stage two being activated, after Muxxalon throws you down into the pit of goop, things get more serious. To help you out with the pit of death the game throws you in, parasites can be seen lining the walls.

If you shoot and kill them, they’ll drop an armor boost that fills your armor all the way up. It is crucial to do this in stage two, as the arena is very tight and Mux will bombard you even more with her workers.

Replenishing your armor every time it’s low practically allows you to be near-invincible as you fight the boss, meaning you can be riskier, and can be exposed for longer while dishing out damage. If you want the fight to be over before too long, then make use of the parasites.

Have the right tool for the job

Technically, you can win the fight with any of the Gatlians; however, some are better than others. When I defeated Muxxalon, I used Sweezy. Her time-stopping abilities combined with her rate of fire made her a great fit for a fight where the boss keeps moving around. I didn’t have to be super accurate, and I kept Mux where I wanted her to be for a longer time.

To be fair, the only guns you shouldn’t entertain are Creature and Gus. Gus’ short range makes him almost useless in the fight, and Creature’s ammunition isn’t really a practical solution to a creature that slides all across the walls. Harper and B.A.L.L. are really the only alternatives to Sweezy here.

While in the goop chamber, don’t worry about using Knifey’s chainsaw upgrade to tear your way into Muxxalon’s head. I tried a few times, and it didn’t damage her one bit. And if it did, then not enough to register, so it’s not worth it. Just stick to shooting on this one.

Rip and tear her apart

After you’ve done so much damage to the monster, she will vomit some goop before retracting into herself, revealing an organ. The artery-vein thing will pop up, with the smaller organs present. You’ve done this rodeo before. Use Knifey’s chainsaw upgrade to tear across the walls. Make sure to hit the smaller organs every time, or else the shield around the main organ won’t open up.

Once you’ve reached the exposed organ, you will get thrown off. Press ‘E’ to plunge Knifey into the organ, destroying it. Doing this every time it comes up whittles down Mux’s HP, and she’ll complain about the organ you just destroyed.

As long as you keep moving, don’t use Creature or Gus, and kill the parasites for armor in the second stage, you’ll be absolutely fine. Once you’ve battled her in the chamber, she will erupt from the floor, leading all the way up to a separate chamber above. Knifey will prompt you to use his ability to travel along the goop to reach the top.

Finishing Muxxalon in High on Knife

Once Muxxalon is defeated, she’ll retreat upward into a separate room. Using Knifey’s chainsaw upgrade ability to ride the goop up, you’ll come across what looks like Muxxalon’s brain. It is hard to tell exactly what you’re looking at, but you know it’s her, as she screams for mercy.

It’s difficult to describe what’s in front of us, but some dialogue will ensue about dealing with it. Without further ado, you can walk up to the mouth-like hole in front of the strange egg-brain thing. Using Knifey, you can jam the chainsaw straight into the abhorrent creature, ending Muxxalon once and for all. You can pat yourself on the back, you’ve just defeated the boss of High on Knife.

I hope you enjoyed our guide on taking down the evil Muxxalon in High on Knife. If you want even more High on Knife content, then PC Invasion has you covered.
