Coral Island has many people for you to befriend and fall in love with. One such resident is Joko, the carpenter.
Can you romance Joko in Coral Island?
One of the things you may be wondering upon seeing Joko in Coral Island is whether or not you can romance him. There are many candidates to romance in Coral Island — but Joko isn’t one of them. Try as you might, Joko is faithful to his wife Dinda and is a committed father to their son Archie.
But just because you can’t romance a character in Coral Island, doesn’t mean you can’t befriend them! Befriending someone in Coral Island will have them send you gifts over via mail, and different people may send over different things depending on who they are and the season you’re in.

How to befriend Joko in Coral Island
Befriending Joko is easy — given you can provide him with his favorite food!
Like in other farming sims with friendship mechanics, befriending someone in Coral Island will have you giving them gifts to increase your favor with them.
Joko lives in the Hillside. You’ll find him hard at work during the day, but after work, you’ll spot him teaching his son essential skills like pumpkin carving or fishing near the forest. He has three heart events that get unlocked at 2 Heart Levels, 3 Heart Levels, and 5 Heart Levels, although I’ll let you discover them yourself.
To befriend him, make sure to gift him the following items:
- Fried Rice
- Pineapple
- Coffee
- Banana Fritter
- Edamame
- Sauteed Chaud
- Yogurt
- Pink Diamond
Joko loves those items, and your friendship will rapidly increase if you keep those gifts coming. He also likes any of the universally liked items in the game, but you’re better off gifting the above.
Joko isn’t personally a fan of Junonia Shells, and hates the following items:
- Bamboo Shoot
- Grilled Fish
- Fish Taco
- Sashimi
- Seafood Ramen
- Sushi
- Fish Soup
- Fish Sandwich
- Mayonnaise
So, it’s clear he isn’t big on fish.
Once you’ve given him enough of his loved items, you’ll have befriended Joko, and he will periodically send you gifts through the mail. He will gift you Stone and Wood all year round, but if it’s Spring, he’ll send you Catfish, and if it’s Winter, he’ll send you Chub. Which is a fish, apparently.
Alongside giving gifts, simply chatting increases your friendship by +35 Heart Points per day. You don’t have to bombard Joko with Pineapples to be buddies.
