Players are reporting not being able to interact with the NPC next to Miquella’s Cocoon in Elden Ring to begin the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Here’s everything you need to do to fix it.

All fixes for the Cocoon Error in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

There are many possible reasons for why you can’t interact with Miquella’s Cocoon in Elden Ring to start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. So make your way through this checklist to find all the solutions.

Have you purchased and downloaded the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Shadow of the Erdtree is a paid DLC for Elden Ring. So if you’ve been waiting for this to drop, but haven’t purchased it or downloaded it, then you’ll need to exit Elden Ring to make sure you do so. Without this bought and installed, the feature simply won’t be available.

The SotE DLC can be purchased on the same platform you bought the game – just search it up on the store. Once paid for, it should begin downloading immediately.

If you’ve already bought the DLC, then make sure to quit Elden Ring to begin the download process. If this hasn’t already begun, then there are a few things you can try. Firstly, restart the platform you’ve got Elden Ring and the SotE DLC on. This may kick-start the installation process. Otherwise, go to the store page for the SotE DLC and click the install button.

Once the DLC is installed, you can head back into Elden Ring to play the DLC.

If you have the SotE DLC bought and installed, then try this next step.

Have you beat Radahn in Elden Ring?

As you’re at Miquella’s Cocoon, it’s safe to assume you’ve beaten Mohg. However, you also need to beat Radahn.

This is a required boss for the DLC, so if you haven’t already beaten Starscourge Radahn, I’d suggest you go about it quickly!

The fight can be cheesed through the use of the many phantom summons as long as you have a bleed weapon to assist them.

With Radahn (and Mohg, naturally) defeated, you should be able to start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Make sure to reset Elden Ring

If you’ve done everything and have been waiting patiently in Elden Ring for the DLC to begin, then that’s why you can’t access the SotE DLC.

You’ll need to exit out of Elden Ring, make sure the DLC is installed, then reboot Elden Ring for the features to be accessible. “Turning it off and on again” is a tried and tested resort for a reason.

With everything accounted for and completed, you should have no problem interacting with the NPC next to Miquella’s Cocoon in Elden Ring to begin the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Good luck, you’ll need it.
