Final Fantasy 14’s latest expansion Dawntrail brings a slew of new additions and QoL updates to the award-winning MMORPG. From a new female version of Hrothgars to reworking the textures and graphics of the overall game, CBU3 has been cooking hard. And to add to their latest features, we’re going to inspect some characters and figure out how to wear glasses in FFXIV Dawntrail, as well as how Facewear exactly works.
How to unlock Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail
Assuming your character didn’t get ruined by the graphical changes with update 7.0, you’ll probably notice a new gear section when inspecting your character. It’s located in the bottom left of the character screen just under your shoe selection. This is where you can equip Facewear, a new accessory system for your Warriors of Light.
Facewear items are like wings or parasols in FF14, meaning they are completely decorative and have no effect on your character’s stats whatsoever, but they do make you look more distinguished if you put on the right pair. However, if you go to click on the gear slot, you’ll be told that you first need to unlock the ability to use Facewear.
This of course is a bit misleading, as all you have to do to unlock Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail is to receive/buy a pair of glasses or other Facewear and use it like you would unlock a mount or minion.
I went to the Gold Saucer and talked to the prize exchanger who was selling some spectacles, and there are certain characters in the three city-states that reportedly have a few options to choose from. You will find glasses, monocles, and more throughout your journey, but there’s more than meets the eye with these new decorative additions to your wardrobe.
FFXIV Dawntrail — Facewear explained
For those who don’t want to spend the Gil on wasteful accessories, you can always opt to head to the Calamity Salvager and see if you have any eligible accessories to turn into Facewear. Either way, once the slot is unlocked you can start accessorizing even more of your character.
The options don’t stop there, as once you unlock a certain type of Facewear you can change the colors from a preset list when you attempt to put them on. This makes it all the more easier to match your spectacles to your current glam, assuming you don’t want to use a color not on the pre-selected list.
There may come a time when players get the color choices from an RGB wheel, but for now, we have to make do and hope we will see some more updates to Facewear in the future. So make sure you’ve taken a look at the Job changes coming with Dawntrail, and keep that Facewear on tight, as you never know the situations you and the Scions will find themselves in.
