Despite war being an eternal focus in gaming, tank games are relatively thin on the ground. While there are titles like World of Tanks, War Thunder, Enlisted, and technically the Battlefield series, they tend to be the exception rather than the rule. Thankfully Armored Warfare also exists, a free MMO that’s dripping with in-depth tank action. Now, that action has just ramped up considerably, as a brand new endgame mode has arrived filled with fresh rewards and tough challenges.
Shockwave mode tasks Armored Warfare players with fighting against an oncoming horde of enemies over a series of escalating waves. This time-limited activity is only reserved for those who’ve reached the endgame of the tank game, with some hefty requirements in place to keep out anyone who hasn’t got there yet. You’ll need a tier ten vehicle just to take part, making it clear that Shockwave is only for the elite of the elite.
Once you’ve got your tank and queued for Shockwave, it’s time to get ready to defend a production plant against the oncoming incursion. There’s no time limit so you can take as long as you want, but the longer you take the higher the chance you or your charge will take too much damage and then it’s game over. There are no respawns on offer, you see, but you will be able to repair your tank should there be materials on hand.
If you thought this would just be a straight up fight against waves of enemies then think again. While that is happening, they’ll be coming from different directions each time meaning you’ll need to be quick on your tracks to be ready for them. There’ll also be a selection of brand new enemies to face, with vehicles and foes you can’t find anywhere else. Thankfully there’s plenty of rewards on offer too – these get better the longer you survive, and the more you kill.
Outside of the new mode, the Shockwave update also has a fair few changes that add considerably to Armored Warfare. The Pipelines map has been overhauled, with updated visuals that should bring it up to date. Decals can now be moved around your tank and resized, unlocking entirely new cosmetic options. Some engine and gun sounds have been updated, and there are also a ton of bug fixes too.
The Shockwave update is out now for Armored Warfare and the new endgame mode will stick around for one month until late November. If you’d like to know more, head over to Steam to get the full lowdown of all the changes in this massive update.
