The First Descendant Season 2 is about to begin, and there’s plenty of new additions to look forward to in the free Steam looter shooter. Unfortunately, developer Nexon has bad news for players hoping that some of their favorite limited-time cosmetics might one day make a return. In an attempt to avoid such issues in the future, The First Descendant skins will be labeled differently, with extensions to a range of skin sales and refunds of Caliber and Paint in certain specific cases.
With The First Descendant Season 2 set to kick off this coming week on Thursday December 5, Nexon has taken a moment to address the way cosmetic skins are offered in its microtransaction store. While many players have called for some of the limited skins offered around the launch of the free Steam game to return, their request has been denied. The First Descendant developer explains that this is due to a law preventing the re-offering of skins advertised as a limited product.
“We are aware that many Descendants want the re-offering of ‘limited skins’ that were previously on sale,” Nexon writes. “However, under the relevant law, ‘limited products’ cannot be re-offered for sale. The full selection includes a range of seasonal options, such as the Halloween ‘Pumpkin Hunter’ and ‘Sweet Whispers’ costumes and the Summer Vacation swimsuit skins. The panda and dinosaur onesies from the game’s first battle pass are also on the list, never to be seen again.
Perhaps the most notable inclusion is the ‘Classic Maid Uniform,’ which can be used by six The First Descendant characters and has seen consistent calls for a return. I can certainly understand the appeal, as someone who frequently darts into action as a scythe-wielding dragon maid in Final Fantasy 14. There’s something undeniably charming about the juxtaposition of the costume against the sheer chaos you’re bringing to the battlefield – plus they just look very stylish.
Alongside the already-discontinued skins, the following list will also become unavailable forever once they go off sale: Albion Fire Brigade, Gentlemanly, Twisted Worship, Executioner, Dead Bride, Mk Dominator 02, and Albion Detention Center. The good news is that from the start of Season 2, the ‘limited skins’ category will now be altered to ‘recommended skins,’ with Nexon stating that “these products may be rereleased through events or promotions at a later time.”
The developer also confirms that, as previously reported, all products included in discount bundles moving forward will now be released as individual items as well, meaning you aren’t forced to buy the full package if you only want one thing.
Furthermore, all common skins will become shareable in Season 2, meaning you’ll only have to buy them once to allow all Descendants capable of using the skin to do so. Paint applied to these skins is now also shared across all Descendants. This change includes several of the discontinued options mentioned above – Nexon notes that anyone who purchased the same skin more than once prior to Season 2 will be refunded the extra Caliber and Paint spent on the additional skins at a later date.
Finally, Ultimate Descendant bundles will now be available at all times. While these were not listed as limited products, they rotated in and out of the store, but all bundles will now be purchasable permanently. Additionally, as with other bundles, all individual components will now be available separately. You can check the full list of changes and affected skins in the official post from Nexon Games.
