Intel has just unveiled these brand new Arrow Lake mobile processors at CES 2025, spanning across three different categories, but it’s the new Intel Core Ultra 200H and 200HX CPUs that look set to be the most interesting for gamers.
While the first Intel Arrow Lake CPUs for desktops like the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K didn’t impress from a gaming standpoint, recent Intel updates have steadily improved the platform, with some Core Ultra CPU patches helping to significantly boost performance. While Intel hasn’t produced the absolute best gaming CPU options for desktop gaming PCs in a while, it has a strong chance at success with these laptop CPUs, although much will depend on how well they perform in the real world.
From that standpoint, it’s these new Intel Core Ultra 200HX gaming CPUs that offer the best chance to impress gamers. On paper, they’re very powerful, with the new flagship Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX having 24 cores, with eight P-cores and 16 E-Cores and a boost clock speed of 5.5GHz, while the Ultra Core 9 275HX just below it offers a slightly reduced 5.4GHz boost clock speed.
Intel also announced the 20-core Intel Core Ultra 7 265HX and Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX, along with the 14-core Ultra 5 245HX and Ultra 5 235HX. In a press release, Intel claims that these new CPUs will offer 41% better multi-threaded performance compared to older Raptor Lake-HX CPUs, which could potentially have a big impact in system resource-heavy games like Cyberpunk 2077.
More interestingly, Intel confirms that new gaming laptops with these 200HX CPUs will ship with the “latest discrete GPUs” with a likely pairing between these new processors and new RTX 5000 series GPUs for laptops. The chipmaker also announced new 200H variants, each with between 14 and 16 cores and a gaming performance boost that, according to Intel, is 21% better than last-gen H-series CPUs, thanks to faster Intel Arc GPUs.
These new Intel Core Ultra 200H CPUs are expected to become available, alongside its new energy efficient Intel Core Ultra 200U range and expanded 200S range for productivity, in new laptops starting in February 2025. Its top-tier 200HX CPUs, meanwhile, will ship in new gaming laptops in “the first half” of 2025, with availability to be confirmed at a later date.
