Now’s the perfect time to grind Delta Force, Steam’s biggest new FPS

It’s now been a whole month since Delta Force kicked off its early access open beta on Steam, and the free-to-play shooter has been doing rather well for itself. Its constant stream of content and events, variety of game modes, and tight gunplay has kept people coming back for more. One aspect that’s always baffled me though is its weekly EXP cap, which limits how much progress you can make on Delta Force’s season pass to unlock its rewards. Well, Delta Force is now removing this limit to let you grind to your heart’s content, but there’s a catch – this isn’t a permanent removal, and will only last for the next couple of weeks until the new season begins.

Even among the popularity of Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Marvel Rivals mania, and the swathe of other free FPS games around, Delta Force has established itself as one of the top shooters on Steam right now, which is an impressive achievement. Its debut season in the global open beta, which is shorter than future seasons will be, still features a decently-sized battle pass full of rewards to unlock with EXP earned from your matches. While progression is well paced, the weekly EXP cap means that you can’t blast through the entire pass at the start of the season – in theory, this should incentivize players to keep coming back week after week.

For that reason, I understand why Team Jade wants to limit EXP gains in this way, but it still doesn’t sit well with me, and it’s been a pain point for plenty of others in the community too. What if you can’t play for a couple of weeks out of the season? What if you want to flaunt a really cool operator skin or weapon camo in the higher tiers as soon as possible? If I had it my way, I’d remove the EXP limiter altogether.

However, after seeing the feedback from players, Team Jade has come to something of a compromise. In a statement, the Delta Force developer says “we understand that some players enjoy pursuing progression in an uncapped manner, and so we will remove the cap at the end of each season to allow players to progress as much as they like. This will also allow those who have fallen behind to catch up and unlock all content.”

That means that from now until Sunday, January 19, you can grind Delta Force and earn unlimited amounts of EXP to go towards your season pass. After that date, things will return to normal and the weekly caps will return. It’s expected that the new, full-length season of Delta Force will kick off soon after this too.

I’ve always been a bit of a cynic when it comes to paid battle passes, mainly due to the FOMO they create – even when you’ve forked out money for premium rewards that you still have to grind hard to unlock. The likes of Marvel Rivals are moving in the right direction by removing expiry dates for seasonal battle passes, meaning that you can still progress them and unlock their rewards after that specific season ends. Delta Force’s temporary relaxing of its rules is a good step forward for it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future it ditches weekly EXP caps altogether.
