Where is the Whopper location in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Whopper is commonly found on the edges of the lake in Area 17 of the Scarlet Forest, typically close to the camp.

Like other creatures, they appear in larger numbers during the Plenty event. They can be found outside of this in smaller numbers and during any time of day.

How do I catch the Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds?

If you find that your line breaks whenever you snag a Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds, there could be a couple of things going wrong.

Here are the numerous ways the Whopper can break the line:

  • The Whopper is hitting an obstacle like a rod, wall, or log.
  • You’re not pushing your lure in the direction it pulls.
  • You’re not pressing the reel button when the Whopper jumps out of the water.

When reeling in the Whopper, you can’t rely on hitting the reel button (R1/RB) and letting the game do all the work. That works on other fish, but not the Whopper.

Instead, reeling in the Whopper requires you to pull your rod in the same direction as it swims. It can reverse course, so be ready to change direction at a moment’s notice to keep it from breaking your line.

Whenever the Whopper isn’t pulling to the left or right, you can make progress reeling it in by spinning the left joystick in circles or spamming WASD on your keyboard.

If the Whopper makes contact with an obstacle in the water, the line will immediately break, canceling the catch and requiring you to cast out the line yet again. Be mindful of obstacles when reeling in the Whopper or attempting to pull it from one side to the other.

When the Whopper jumps out of the water, all you need to do is tap the reel button again. Failing this will immediately break the line.

What is the Whopper for in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Fishing up a Whopper is an objective for one of the later quests Kanya dishes out at the fishing hole in the main Scarlet Forest camp. This comes after the Goldenfish quest and a few others and can be unlocked at around HR 12.

If Kanya isn’t giving you any more quests, use our Monster Hunter Wilds quest list to check your progress. You’ll need to complete her previous quests and have reached a certain point in the main storyline to unlock her next mission.
