If videogames have one universal truth, it’s that bashing zombies in the head never gets old. Whether cleaving with the fireaxe in Left 4 Dead 2, sliding into the undead and unleashing combos with a makeshift shiv in Dying Light, or hitting infected in the dome with brown sugar in Dead Rising, there’s just something about taking out these sub-human beings. One of the best to ever do it is Dead Island 2 – a sequel a decade in the making – and you can snag the game cheap right now.
When I took Dead Island 2 for a spin late last year, it was like reuniting with an old friend. I played a lot of the original game back in the day, finding new ways to dispose of the undead, and the sequel definitely doesn’t disappoint either. The zombie game has all the bizarre weapons, characters, and creative kills you could imagine – and you can experience the full thing with friends.
The undead have taken over LA (now affectionately called Hell-A), and after the last evacuation flight out of the city crashes right back where it started, you need to find a way out. This set dressing isn’t what makes Dead Island 2 so moreish, however, because the sheer breadth of killing apparatus on offer is the reason to stick around.
Once you’ve settled in, there’s a lot more on offer in Dead Island 2 than there was at launch. The Haus and SoLA DLCs give you even more to do, and a recent update even added two more game modes.
You can now go around again in New Game Plus, while Neighborhood Watch offers a cross between a horde mode and tower defense. In the latter, you need to spend five days holding back the zombie hordes and completing objectives. The last day has the biggest, meanest, and most flesh-hungry crowds of the undead come your way, so you’ll want to make sure you’re ready.
You can grab a Dead Island 2 code for Steam or the Epic Games Store now, with the deal lasting until Thursday March 13. The game is 50% off, so expect to pay $24.99 / £19.99 until then. You can click the box above or go right to Humble instead.
