How to evolve Voltorb in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Voltorb eventually evolves to become Electrode. In either form, the creature ignores sound-based attacks and may sometimes inflict paralysis when hit by an enemy’s physical attacks. At higher levels, it learns devastating electric-based abilities. It also benefits from the usual boosted stats, making it the perfect addition to a team that targets enemies weak to electrical attacks.
To evolve Voltorb in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, level it up until it reaches level 30. Unlike some Pokémon that offer similar levels of utility, there’s no need to reach level 50, nor must the creature carry any special items to facilitate the evolution.
Voltorb looks like a ball and doesn’t loom especially large as it roams about the map. This can make it easy to miss. You will most easily find it in the East Province (Area Three) region, northwest from Levincia. Often, you can fast travel to the Watchtower located near the center of the area to find a Voltorb rolling around in the nearby dirt. The creature sometimes also appears in West Province (Area Three).
Wherever you encounter the Voltorb, make sure to approach and engage it quickly. When you get close, it starts flashing and self-destructs if you dawdle. Once you start your battle, try to weaken it quickly. Then capture it before it has a chance to exhaust its own HP by using its Self-Destruct ability.
In the event you can’t find Voltorb in one of the applicable regions, you can increase the likelihood of an encounter by having a picnic and eating food such as an Avocado Sandwich, which increases the rate at which electric-based monsters appear. You can also access the picnic menu and eat nothing, then exit to cause a new selection of local beasts.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
