No Rest for the Wicked, currently in Steam Early Access, is getting a new update, The Breach, that promises to add a massive amount of content to this fantasy-themed action RPG. Developer Moon Studios has released a tantalising but short teaser trailer hinting at the horrors to come. And, going by the game’s Steam reviews, which have taken a turn for the negative, the sooner it gets here the better.
Released in April 2024, No Rest for the Wicked is an action RPG game that tasks you with cleansing a medieval-style realm land of a plague known as the Pestilence. On top of that, the land is in the hands of the late king’s son Magnus, who may not be up to the job of keeping the kingdom together. At least, that’s part of the story because, as a Steam Early Access game, Moon Studios is building up this tale, chapter by chapter.
Moon Studios has teased that the latest update, The Breach, could be the biggest to date, calling it “monumental”. The studio, also responsible for the Ori games, has acted on player feedback, giving No Rest for the Wicked a roguelite system and more. So you can expect this latest update to follow suit.
However, we won’t find out just what The Breach includes just yet, other than a brief glimpse at the nasties above. Instead, Moon Studios will present a deep dive into the content this March 11, during one of their Wicked Inside presentations. However, we’re hoping Moon drops a few tidbits before that, for the game’s sake.
Why? Because right now, the game’s rating sits at ‘Mixed’, thanks to a host of reviews which call the dev out on a lack of communication. Some went so far as to suggest the game had been abandoned entirely because the last major update was eight months ago.
As Moon Studios acknowledges in its announcement, the studio has been a little quiet. “From now on you can also expect more constant and frequent communication on all of our official channels leading up to and beyond this big beat,” this statement adds.
Hopefully The Breach delivers; this gorgous ARPG has some serious promise, and we’d love to see it go toe-to-toe with Diablo 4. If you want something else to play while you wait, we’ve rounded up the best hack and slash games and the best indie games.
