There’s no official data just yet about the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and its performance, but an interesting new gaming performance leak adds further fuel to the suggestion that it’s set to rival Nvidia cards like the RTX 5070 in the middle-tier gaming GPU market.

AMD officially announced the latest RDNA 4 graphics card at CES 2025 last week, but plenty of the official details are still a mystery, leaving rumors to fill the gap. That includes suggestions in a leaked RX 9070 XT benchmark that performance is on par with the RTX 4080 Super, giving AMD a true best graphics card contender for the average gamer.

This new rumor comes via a now-deleted post on the Chiphell forums, but has also been shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @9550pro in a recent post. The original leak comes from Chiphell admin user nApoleon who shared some interesting performance data about how well the RX 9070 XT actually performs while playing Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong, compared to both the RTX 4080 Super and the RTX 4070 Ti Super. Although the card is listed as XXXX XT in the post, it’s a decent assumption that it refers to this particular GPU, given the time frame and the cards it’s compared to.

The leak shows FPS results for all three cards at 4K, 2K, and 1080p resolutions. While there’s no evidence to corroborate the claim, such as in-game screenshots with FPS counts, nApoleon’s data suggests that the RX 9070 XT’s performance is ahead of the RTX 4070 Ti Super, but just shy of the RTX 4080 Super, in both games.

Leaked Black Myth: Wukong performance data

No other information is shared and it’s unclear what settings were used for these tests, so it could be an unfair comparison, at least for now. Even if the test conditions are truly fair, it’s still an unreleased card, meaning it lacks optimized drivers, so gameplay performance could be even better after the card is officially launched, depending on the specs.

While we can’t read too much into this data, it’s a positive sign that AMD has built a solid mid-tier GPU here, capable of reliably high 1440p framerates, and even managing 30fps at 4K in some scenarios. However, very little so far has been confirmed about the RX 9070 XT, including its official set of specs. New RX 9070 XT price rumors, however, point to it being an affordable alternative to Nvidia’s mid-tier RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti cards, with a price between $479 and $549 being suggested.
