Honkai: Star Rail features a multitude of unique characters for you to obtain and use in some intense battles. Fortunately for players, there are also a large number of free characters as well. One of these free characters is March 7th, who you obtain alongside Dan Heng during the tutorial of the game. March 7th is an invaluable unit for early-game players as a Preservation unit and is able to protect your team through some of the most difficult fights. She holds her own just fine late game as well, so if you’re a free-to-play player, you should consider building March 7th for your account. Here is our guide on the best Relics, Light Cones, Eidolons, and abilities you’ll need to create the best March 7th build in Honkai: Star Rail.
Best build for March 7th in Honkai: Star Rail: Relics, Light Cones, Eidolons, and Abilities
March 7th is a Preservation character and specializes in protecting your team with shields. March 7th is comparable to Gepard, who are both Ice Preservation units. However, the difference between the two is Gepard’s shield is teamwide, but locked behind his Ultimate. March 7th’s shields are single-target but can be cast at any time with her Skill. This can make March 7th a bit skill-point-hungry, as she needs to consume a skill point to supply her shields. March 7th’s shields scale off of her Defense, so we’ll want to maximize this stat as much as we can.
Light Cones
March 7th has numerous choices that can boost her DEF stat considerably.
- Moment of Victory is a strong 5-star Preservation Light Cone that boosts March 7th’s DEF stat by 24%. It also increases her DEF by an additional 24% when she is hit by an attack, which she can make happen more often by shielding herself. This Light Cone is a good option for buffing March 7th’s shield strength but is quite expensive to get as a 5-star Light Cone.
- Day One of My New Life is a 4-star Preservation Light Cone and is a strong option, buffing March 7th’s DEF by 16%. This weapon is a bit more flexible, as it also buffs the DMG RES of all allies by 8%, giving her entire team some extra defensive utility. While Moment of Victory will be stronger for pure shielding, this Light Cone may be a better option if you’re looking to make your team a little tankier as well.
- Texture of Memories is a 5-star Preservation Light Cone that’s available for free to all players from Herta’s Store. This is her best free-to-play option purely due to 5-star stats, although the passive does not provide a huge benefit to March 7th and her shielding capabilities.

Relics & Eidolons
- For her 4-piece set, you will want to invest in the Knight of Purity Palace set. This set increases March 7th’s DEF by an additional 15% and also increases the Max DMG absorbed by her shields by 20%, giving her shields a direct buff. Focus on stacking as many DEF stats as possible, as this will greatly increase her shields and can even boost her damage if you have her Eidolon 4.
- For her 2-piece set, you will want to invest in the Belobog of the Architects set. This increases her DEF by 15%, and by an additional 15% if her Effect Hit Rate is 50% or higher. You can feasibly hit 50% by getting decent substats on your Relics, but you should still stack DEF on your other pieces rather than work to activate the second part of this Relic effect.
- Good Eidolons to look out for are her Eidolon 2, 4, and 6. Eidolon 2 generates a shield immediately at the start of battle equal to 24% of March 7th’s DEF + 320, which can help free up some Skill Points as this will ease her shielding responsibilities. Eidolon 4 increases the number of counterattacks March 7th can perform each turn and also increases the damage of it based on March 7th’s DEF, which can be a neat little offensive boost. Eidolon 6 also allows March 7th to heal. While this heal won’t compare to the likes of dedicated healers, like Natasha or Bailu, it still adds an extra layer of defensive utility.
