Marvel’s Midnight Suns best Ghost Rider cards and build guide

Vicious and Hellacious

Many of Ghost Rider’s abilities deplete his own HP, which means you have to take care or he could get whacked to oblivion. This makes him a bit complicated and unwieldy compared to straightforward DPS characters.

Meanwhile, his Souls mechanic is all about landing the killing blow on enemies to obtain Souls. You need four to reach the max tier, whereupon you’ll receive an extra Drain Soul card.

  • Passive: Soul Collector – Getting a full Soul bar (i.e., four kills) also increases your maximum HP (can be done twice in a battle). The upgraded version of this perk also requires only three Souls to fill up the meter.

Best Ghost Rider Attack Cards

  • Lash+
    • Forceful Knockback in any direction; Quick; character also takes damage.
    • This will probably be the only Attack Card you’ll use often, so just watch out for the health depletion.
  • Retribution+
    • Knockback; deal damage; gain +2 Souls; discard a random card.
    • Retribution is actually quite good since it grants +2 Souls instantly. The problem is that it randomly discards one card. If it’s something integral to your setup, then that can be a bummer. Worse, reloading your save doesn’t always mean that the card chosen will be different.

Best Ghost Rider Skill Cards

  • Hellmouth+
    • Create a drop that lasts two turns; has an increased chance to KO enemies when pushed into it; gain +1 Strengthened (i.e., +50% damage done).
    • Hellmouth is only good if you like to rely on crowd control and trickery (i.e., you can realign Magik’s portals to push an enemy to a Hellmouth). The KO chance is also dependent on the enemy’s HP, so don’t expect it to kill baddies at full health. On a positive note, it does provide +2 Heroism and the Strengthened buff.
  • Straight to Hell+
    • Replace Ghost Rider with a Drop until the next turn; restores HP; Final.
    • This card can be a lifesaver especially when Ghost Rider is low on health or he’s being targeted by too many hostiles. He’ll “burrow” to the depths of the inferno, and he can get healed, too. Just remember to pop this when you don’t need to do anything else, since the “Final” effect would prevent Ghost Rider from taking actions for the remainder of the turn.

Best Ghost Rider Heroic Cards

  • Hell Ride+
    • Damage all enemies in a wide line; discard your hand.
    • Okay, Hell Ride isn’t really one of the best Ghost Rider cards in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. In fact, it might be in the running for one of the worst in the game. This is because it forces you to discard your entire hand, even valuable abilities.
    • The reason I’m including it here is because you don’t really have a lot of high-damage/multi-hit options early in the game. Choose this while you’re still trying to get the optimal cards, and use it sparingly when you’ve got a terrible hand.
  • Judgment+
    • Consume 25% of Ghost Rider’s health; convert each point to +2 damage; deal damage to a target and nearby enemies.
    • While Ghost Rider does lose a lot of HP (making this very risky), it’s a great way to completely obliterate a squad of hostiles that are clustered together.
  • Hell’s Fury+
    • While this card is in your hand, it gains extra damage whenever Ghost Rider loses HP via enemy attacks or his own abilities.
    • Ghost Rider will lose HP no matter what, so Hell’s Fury is guaranteed to gain a damage boost. Keep this card in your hand until such time you can unleash its destructive potential.
  • Penance Stare+ (Legendary/Heroic)
    • Consume 50% of Ghost Rider’s health; convert each point to +4 damage and hit a single target; fill the Souls meter; Exhaust.
    • This is an absolutely brutal spell that’s further modified by Ghost Rider’s current HP.

Note: Legendary Cards are obtained by building the Armory and maxing out the Hunter’s Friendship Levels with another hero. This will unlock a solo puzzle encounter that you have to complete.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns best Ghost Rider build summary

  • Due to Ghost Rider’s HP depletion mechanic, you’re going to need healers like the Hunter or Nico.
  • Likewise, his Soul Collector mechanic requires him to land the killing blow to fill up the meter. Characters that rely heavily on Quick-boosted chains (i.e., Spider-Man’s Chain Strike) or insta-nukes (i.e., Scarlet Witch/Hulk) would gobble up all the kills. Moreover, the Bleed mechanic that Blade focuses on wouldn’t be as helpful since it’s a damage-over-time effect.
  • Hellmouth is there for the Heroism and Strengthened gains. But, if you have Magik, she can align a portal so that an enemy is sent toward the Hellmouth. Her Limbo’s Grasp also deals additional damage, which helps increase the percentage that the target will get KO’d.
  • Hell Ride is only good early in the game when you don’t have decent Heroic Cards, but it should be replaced once there are better options.
  • Use Judgment early in a fight when Ghost Rider’s HP is still full so you can rip apart hostiles that are grouped up.
  • Conversely, cast Hell Fury a bit later once you’ve taken some damage.
