The best office chairs can save your posture and make life more comfortable when working or playing for long periods. If, like me, you sit down for a larger part of the day and need the right chair to help your health, we’ve been trying and testing the top options to help you find the right one.
The best gaming chairs often have a specific look, and this list is home to more subtle designs that look at home in a more professional setting. I’ve chosen the chairs in this guide for their comfort levels, support, and design. Herman Miller is a well-known name and the go-to for premium seating, but I’ve been very impressed by newer brands like Boulies and Flexispot. If you’re on a budget, affordable options like the Vertagear PL1000 will serve your spine well, too.
When choosing the best office chair, I’d suggest considering how much you want to spend, your physical dimensions (there’s no benefit to being too small or big in an office chair), and the look you’re after in your office space. Then, take a seat and look through my top picks…

This FlexiSpot chair is available globally, as the C8 in the US and the BS11 PRO in the UK. After several weeks of testing, we found it to be the best all-rounder for comfort, features, and value. It’s not the cheapest on this list, but if you want an ergonomic design that supports you for long periods of sitting, it’s ideal.
The chair takes about 45 minutes to assemble, but making adjustments to get a comfortable position is much quicker. You can tilt the back, headrest, and arms to suit your build, and all of the movements are smooth.
The C8/BS11 Pro looks futuristic and minimalistic, and its mesh build gives a look that’s less “heavy” than a traditional solid black chair, especially in a small room. FlexiSpot’s premium ergonomic chair provides real comfort and customization for an office.

Reasons to buy
- Confortable foam seat
- Brilliant tilt rocking function
- Great for larger bodies
Reasons to avoid
- Not the cheapeast
- Big and bulky
The Boulies Master Chair 2024 is one of my favorite products this year. It’s been designed to hug every curve of your body for the ultimate quality, comfort, and support, and while it’s not great for small spaces, in many ways, it’s the ideal hybrid office/gaming chair and looks at home in many different settings.
I tested the Master Max in Blue Slate fabric and found it ergonomic in the extreme, with smooth curves, contoured cushions, and customizable integrated lumbar support. The chair can be adjusted to suit how you sit, and I love tilting it back for a more relaxed stance when working on a laptop. The seat base is wide enough to sit cross-legged should you want to, and my 6 ft 4 partner also found it big enough for his height.
The assembly is a bit fiddly, but the build quality is solid, with a strong steel frame, aluminum base, multi-tilt mechanism, and the standard-at-this-quality class-4 gas lift. The Boulies Master 2024 is ready to roll, tilt, and recline whenever you are, wrapping your body in a bespoke chair shell of 100% comfort-ensuring cold-cure foam.

43 – 60cm |

- Backed by scientific research
Reasons to avoid
- Very expensive
- Availability can vary
The Herman Miller X Logitech G Embody gaming chair combines two titan brands to create the most comfortable and well-designed chair we could hope to include on this list. Taking the design of the original Herman Miller Embody office chair – with science-backed lumbar support – this Logitech version comes in several fun colorways, including lilac and white.
There’s more to this partnership than just new fabrics, though. Herman Miller has enhanced the chair’s original design by taking into account how gamers sit. That means there’s extra padding in the seat to support an upright posture, as well as copper-infused cooling foam to prevent heat from building up as you play for longer periods.
The build quality of Herman Miller products is always premium (which you’d expect for the price), and the Embody has molded foam armrests, an aluminum base, and carpet and hard floor wheels so it’s suitable for any surface you want to roll on.
It’s the most expensive office chair here, but given how long many of us sit down at our desks to work or game, we think it’s a worthy investment if your budget will stretch. It gets a 4.4 out of 5 stars from over 600 reviews on the official Herman Miller website, with many saying it’s the only gaming chair they’ll ever need. Thanks to its 12-year warranty, it could well be.
Hbada Office Chair
Best cheap office chair
Hbada Office Chair specifications:
Recommended height |
167.64 – 192.02cm (5’5″ – 6’6″) |
Recommended weight |
113kg (249.12lbs) |
Seat height |
45cm – 54cm |
Seat depth |
48cm |
Swivel |
Class 4 |
Reasons to buy
- Wonderful price
- Black and white designs
Reasons to avoid
- Ergonomics could be better
- Not ideal for short or tall people
Not everyone can afford the fanciest of office chairs, and we understand that sometimes the cheapest option is the one you’ve gotta go for. While there are technically cheaper options around, this is the cheapest one you can get without having something which A) will absolutely ruin your spine and, B) is made shoddily and will fall apart.
The Hbada has a mesh back that’s wonderfully comfortable and its subtle design comes in both black and white. It’s the kind of thing that, depending on your choice, will fit in perfectly with just about any game room or office space. Meanwhile, it has all the standard adjustments for height, and level of recline, though we do think that it would benefit from a few additional ergonomic adjustments e.g. with the armrests.
For the price, we think it’s a pretty good choice. It might not be ideal for prolonged use (by which I mean over about three hours) but that makes it a particularly good choice for a gaming chair. It’s cheap, has office aesthetics, and will keep you comfortable throughout your gaming sessions.
The most supportive office chair.
FlexiSpot C7 Ergonomic specifications:
Dimensions |
119.38 – 142.24cm |
Weight capacity |
136.07kg (300lbs) |
Seat height |
119.38 – 142.24cm |
Seat depth |
43.18 – 48.26cm |
Swivel |
360 degrees |
Reasons to buy
- Excellent balance between support and comfort
- Easy to adjust
- Lumbar support is very effective
Reasons to avoid
- Needs two people to assemble
- Looks are a bit corporate
- Not the cheapest in its class
FlexiSpot is well known for making some of the best standing desks, and its office chairs are just as good at providing a comfortable experience when you’re working or gaming. During our testing of the FlexiSpot C7, we found its back support to be excellent for full days of sitting, and on par with the more expensive Herman Miller chairs.
The C7 backrest features a tension adjustment with 4 different settings, and you also get an adjustable headrest, plus a 93-114-degree tilt range. The thick foam cushion is comfortable for all-day periods, while you can upgrade to a mesh seat for a small extra cost.
Although it’s not the cheapest option, the C7 Ergonomic office chair comes with a 10-year warranty and has been tested against thousands of daily uses to ensure it lasts well. We think it’s the best balance of comfort versus price on this list. And while it won’t win any awards for most exciting design, its neutral looks should fit in most environments.

Razer Iskur X
Best office chair for gaming
Razer Iskur X specifications:

45 – 53cm |
Seat depth |
45cm |
Swivel |

Reasons to buy
- Incredibly comfortable
- 4D arms
A name spoken in revered whispers by gaming and esports fans the globe over, Razer knows a thing or two when it comes to making the gaming gear that matters. Whether it’s hardware or software to enhance the electronic experience way above the average, or something seemingly a bit more simple, Razer has every element covered. This brings us neatly to this, a different kind of ‘software’ that the Big R has exactingly engineered to keep you in the game, the Iskur X.
Named after either a Bulgarian river OR a Mesopotamian god of storms (I’m guessing the latter), this stunning seat features an ergonomic lumbar support system and high-density foam cushions so hardcore gamers and core harder for even longer, 4D armrests take tailored support to a whole new level.
Finished in black multi-layered synthetic leather (PVC) and stitching in Razer’s distinctive green livery, beneath the skin a plywood frame is reinforced by steel to keep the whole shebang rock-solid, while a steel-reinforced wheelbase, add to the Iskur X’s ability to house gamers of up to 136kg (299lbs) in complete comfort for stupidly prolonged periods of play. And that’s the Razer Iskur X: less a chair, more a throne of games.

Reasons to avoid
- Expensive
- Even more expensive if you customize
The TITAN Evo from Secretlabs comes in three size flavors: Small, Regular, and XL. Still, for the sake of this round-up, I’ve decided to focus on the big boy of the triumvirate seeing as gamers come in all shapes and sizes, and not every chair option out there is designed to deal with those of us of a higher or heftier build.
If that includes you, then forget the rest and rest your forget in this. Capable of coping with those up to 6’9” tall and/or weighing in at up to 396lbs, this absolute armchair comes packing the world’s most advanced four-way lumbar support system (and if you’ve never had a four-way, you don’t know what you’ve been missing), along with a magnetic memory foam head pillow, full-metal 4D armrests, complete recline and tilt adjustability, and a proprietary sculpted pebble seat base, all draped in your choice of Secretlab NEO Hybrid Leatherette, SoftWeave Plus fabric, NAPA leather, or official Lamborghini ‘Exotic’, with a variety of colorways available to boot.
Built for battle, this is a seat sculpted specifically for gaming giants, and once both your back and backside have experienced its myriad modes of personal maneuverability you’ll never settle for anything else.

Secretlab Titan Evo Plush Pink specifications:
Recommended height |
181 – 205cm (5’11” – 6’9″) |
Recommended weight |
80 – 180kg (175 – 396lbs) |
Seat height |
46 – 55.5cm |
Seat depth |
50cm |
Swivel |
360 degrees |
Reasons to buy
- Beautiful pink design
- Different sizes accommodate all
Reasons to avoid
- Not a cheap choice
- Gets even pricier with customization
What the heck, I hear you say, why have you got the same chair twice in a row? Well, as much as both this chair and the previous one are part of the Titan Evo line, there’s so much customization and variation available among Titan Evos, that they all have their own unique strengths. The XL might be the best for big and tall people, but this variant is the best option for anyone who needs a pink gaming chair.
Could we have chosen a different pink office chair for the sake of variety? Well, yes, we could, but we wanted to recommend the best pink office chair, and to do that, we needed to include the Titan Evo link twice. Not only do these pink chairs look beautifully vibrant, but they’re comfortable and ergonomic too.
Like all Secretlab chairs, you can make your own adjustments for size and upholstery, so you can fine-tune it to be exactly what you want. Secretlab chairs are always going to be one of the more expensive options out there, but if you can afford it, we think it will make you very happy.

How to choose the best office chair
The best office chair for you depends on your size and weight, how much you have to spend, how you usually sit, and what sort of design you’re looking for. While office chairs used to be black and bland, chair brands like Boulies, Branch, and Herman Miller now make gorgeous modern options in a spectrum of colors. If design is important, I’d recommend shelling out for a colorway to blend into your office space.
Another aspect of the design is comfort and adjustability. Cheaper chairs generally offer fewer ways to tweak the chair’s height and angle, while premium offerings will allow you to tailor the lumbar support, change the tilt amount, and even shift the chair’s seat back and forward.
I’d think about how you sit most while working. Is it on a laptop? On a desktop? A larger seat base means you can sit cross-legged, and a taller chair with a headrest can be comfortable if you plan to game. Once you’ve chosen your chair, dedicate some time to adjust it to your proportions. It takes a few weeks to set up a new chair, so don’t be disheartened if you don’t get it right the first time.
What’s the difference between office chairs and gaming chairs?
Typically office chairs are better for your back and neck than gaming chairs because they are made with the expectation that you will be sitting on them for a whole workday, while a lot of gaming chairs are only used for a couple of hours.
That’s only very broadly speaking, of course. Some gaming chairs will be more ergonomic than some office chairs, so make sure you do your research with each purchase. Aesthetically, there is a difference; office chairs tend to feature more mesh, and subtler accents, while gaming chairs are “heavier”, often big and bulky with foam seat bases.
Does a good office chair make a difference?
Absolutely. You’re likely to spend a long time sitting down in your office chair each day, and it’s no exaggeration to say that an inferior product could reduce your quality of life and comfort. Over time, badly designed office chairs can genuinely warp the shape of your spine and cause chronic back problems.
Is a hard chair better for your back?
Generally speaking, yes. If you go for a softer chair that you sink into, this will potentially do more harm to your back than a harder chair. Having said that, many different factors determine a chair’s effect on your back, so it won’t always be the case that the harder choice is the healthier choice.
