Mods can make or break weapons in Fortnite and drastically alter their performance. These attachments aren’t created equally, so here are the best weapon and mod combinations in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2.

Where to get weapon mods in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2

Before I explain what mods I recommend, let me quickly show you how to get them, as it’s different from Chapter 5, Season 1. There are five Weapons Bunkers spread across the map. Each Bunker contains a Mod Workbench, Rare Treasure Chests, and Gold Bars.

These Weapons Bunkers only open after the first Storm Circle completely closes. At this point, a siren activates outside the Bunkers, and the door opens.

You can add or replace Mods for your weapons at the Mod Workbench. The Workbench works on most weapons, but Mythic guns and special weapons like Zeus’s Thunderbolt cannot be altered.

As I mentioned earlier, mods aren’t created equally. You can install useless mods and even worsen your weapons if you’re not paying attention. With this in mind, here’s what I recommend for each weapon type.

Assault Rifles

  • Drum Mag
  • Red Eye Sight
  • Angled Foregrip

The Drum Mag is the only essential attachment, as the others aren’t nearly as impactful. Drum Mags increase your magazine size so you can fight longer without reloading. The alternative is a Speed Mag, which reloads faster, but I prefer not to reload at all if possible.

I like the Red Eye Sight, but any low-magnifying optic is fine. Assault Rifles have heavy bullet drop at range, making long-range optics less useful.

Finally, the Angled Foregrip isn’t essential, but it decreases ADS speed, so we can use our Optic a little faster.

Shotguns

  • Drum Mag
  • Laser
  • Muzzle Break

The Drum Mag is essential for shotguns. The Frenzy Auto Shotgun can fire a whopping 12 shots with a Drum Mag, and you can comfortably fight multiple opponents with it.

Everything else for the Shotgun is optional, but the Laser is nice as it increases hip-fire accuracy. The Muzzle Break reduces recoil but isn’t essential.

I usually fire from the hip with my Shotgun and swap to another weapon if my opponent moves away. With this in mind, I don’t recommend optics as I don’t find them helpful.

Sniper Rifles

  • Drum Mag
  • Sniper Optic/Thermal Optic

A modded magazine is less valuable on Sniper Rifles thanks to their slow rate of fire, but it is a decent attachment regardless. The Optic is the most essential mod for Sniper Rifles, and I highly recommend the Sniper Optic specifically.

The Sniper Optic offers 4X magnification and is perfect for long-range engagements. If you want to try a quick scope, you can be flashy and use low-mag optics, but I recommend the usual for most players.

Thermal Scopes are new in Chapter 5, Season 2, and highlight targets in red. I prefer this scope on the DMR as it only magnifies by 2.1X, but try it out as it makes spotting bush campers much easier.

DMR’s

  • Drum Mag
  • Thermal Optic/P2X Optic
  • Vertical Foregrip

DMRs are great for mid-range engagements and do a disgusting amount of damage if you hit the head. Once again, the Drum Mag is the best attachment, as you won’t need to reload as much.

The Thermal Optic works well on the DMR, as you can easily spot targets at a distance. If you prefer a regular sight, the P2X is similar but without thermal vision. Finally, the Vertical Foregrip improves ADS Recoil and Spread, making the DMR feel more comfortable as it kicks hard without an attachment.

SMGs

  • Red Eye Sight
  • Drum Mag
  • Laser
  • Muzzle Break

I don’t use optics on SMGs, as I prefer to hipfire, but the Red Eye Sight has low magnification and is a good choice if you want one. As SMGs chew through ammo, the Drum Mag is essential for securing kills without reloading.

The Laser and Muzzle Break improve accuracy for close-range battles and make the SMG easier to handle. The Frenzy Auto Shotgun dominates at close range, but you can do great things with the SMG if you can make your opponent miss.

Pistols

Pistols are in an odd spot in Chapter 5, Season 2, so I recommend swapping to another weapon when possible. Still, the Drum Mag is decent, adding a few valuable rounds to play with.

The Speed Foregrip increases movement speed while aiming. While you’ll likely lose to other weapon types in a fair fight, your faster speed may make your opponents miss and grant you the win.

Weapon Mods cost Gold Bars, and while they aren’t too expensive, modding every match does start to add up. The combinations above work for me, but I recommend experimenting and tailoring your mods to your play style.
