The release date for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is exactly two weeks away now, so it’s about time for another Night City Wire episode. Tune in on Thursday, September 14 at 11 AM ET for the next Night City Wire and see the most in-depth look yet for the Phantom Liberty expansion as well as what’s new in the base game of Cyberpunk 2077 with the 2.0 update.
CD Projekt RED released a series of these Night City Wire promotional videos for the original game release, so it’s no surprise that more are on the way for Cyberpunk 2077‘s only expansion. Based on prior Night City Wires, we can expect an overview on the new content along with developer commentary on specific aspects of the game that have been improved for the new release.
The final cut, AKA Cyberpunk 2077 2.0
There’s a lot in the pipeline for the coming expansion in addition to a free update that overhauls the base game to address criticisms of the base game. Phantom Liberty involves a series of events gone wrong in which V teams up with the stranded President of the United States to escape the most dangerous part of Night City. It includes a new district to explore with a full narrative and a performance by actor Idris Elba.
As for the free update, we know there are dynamic, GTA-style police chases coming, reworked skill and cyberware systems, and tons of new items coming to the game. New additions will include a Relic skill tree for your fancy, coveted implant. Many of the new items will also be locked behind the purchasable Phantom Liberty content if you don’t mind the $29.99 USD price.
On the bright side, there’s still plenty of new things to try if you own a copy of the base game already. It should at least be worth another playthrough if you’ve needed a good reason to do so. CD Projekt RED also implemented numerous patches, optimizations, and graphics upgrades including DLSS 3 and path tracing prior to Phantom Liberty. With recommended PC specs also changing to handle graphics upgrades, the game should remain a visual feast and true test of your PC for years to come.
Night City Wire is back — with a special #PhantomLiberty episode! We’ll talk about new radios, learn more about Reed from Idris Elba himself, discuss gameplay & new abilities… and throw in a surprise or two. Don’t miss it!

CD Projekt RED doesn’t provide specifics about what’s in the Night City Wire, but we already have a good idea on what to expect. Aside from the aforementioned announced changes, we’ll likely see more of the new area of Night City known as Dogtown. It’s full of high-powered enemies, so the new gameplay abilities that currently look quite OP might actually be necessary to deal with the threats that await.
Catch the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Night City Wire episode on Twitch or YouTube on September 14 at 11 AM ET. The expansion releases on September 26, though there’s still no official word on the free update. That may come alongside the expansion release, or perhaps we get it earlier.
