If messing around with 22 heroes in Deadlock wasn’t enough variety for you, Valve has just expanded the third-person MOBA’s roster with four more characters. All graduating from its Hero Labs testbed, this quartet may still need some visual polish, but from a gameplay perspective, they’re all raring to go.
Deadlock’s mysterious and surprising emergence last year established itself as one of the most exciting MOBA games we’ve ever seen, but its sky-high player counts have declined somewhat over the last couple of months. What better way to stoke the flames and get players to return than to throw four brand new Deadlock characters into the game.
For anyone that’s been dedicated enough to slide into Deadlock’s Hero Labs whenever it’s open, you’ll already be familiar with these characters’ designs and kits. Holliday, Calico, Vyper, and The Magnificent Sinclair (which is certainly one of my favorite multiplayer game hero names ever) have all been tucked away in Labs for a while, but now they’ve been unleashed on the full game. We haven’t got full official patch notes or ability breakdowns for these new characters yet, but we do have some brief descriptions from Valve.
Holliday is a sharpshooter “armed with an heirloom revolver and a spirit lasso.” Calico is a “feared assassin” that “uses the shadows to her advantage” and can transform into a cat. Vyper is a humanoid lizard that gives you infinite ammo when sliding and has abilities that involve “spraying lead and poison” across the battlefield. Finally, The Magnificent Sinclair is a magician that can “summon a spectral assistant, polymorph foes into rabbits, and turn the enemies own abilities against them.”
In the blog post announcing this group of new characters, Valve says that adding more heroes is a top priority for this year and admits it’s probably adding them a little earlier than it should. “Expanding our roster is one of our major goals in 2025. While some of these characters have a much higher degree of temporary art than usual, we are excited to see how they perform on the battlefield,” it says. With the addition of Holliday, Calico, Vyper, and Sinclair, Deadlock’s roster is now 26 characters strong.
The four new Deadlock heroes are live in the game right now.
