What do Diablo 4 gems do? These useful items can be applied to your gear to increase defensive, offensive, or resistance stats, depending on the gear you apply them to. You’ll find sockets on your armor, jewelry, and weapons where you can slot gems into place by using the jeweler at most villages.

Diablo 4 gems can be crafted or found in the open world obtained from chests and ores, and they can then be combined by a Diablo 4 jeweler to create more powerful, upgraded versions, so it’s worth picking up all that you see. Check out our Diablo 4 classes hub to help you decide who you’re going to slay the streets of Sanctuary as, and the best builds for each of them.

All Diablo 4 gems

There are seven different types of gems in Diablo 4: Skulls, Amethyst, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Topaz – each providing different benefits depending on their tier and rarity. To craft better gems, you need to combine three gems of the same tier and pay a certain amount of gold. We’ll be sure to update this guide when we’ve discovered all the gems in the RPG game.

How to craft D4 gems

Crafting gems in Diablo 4 requires gathering crude crystals and skulls around Sanctuary, and combining them into a higher-tier gem with a jeweler. Obtain raw gems by destroying ore veins. While gems can drop from any ore vein, they are more likely to appear from rarer Glittering Ore Veins. There is also a chance that you will receive gems from chests.

To craft Combine Level required
Chipped Skull 3x Crude Skull 20
Chipped Amethyst 3x Crude Amethyst 20
Chipped Diamond 3x Crude Diamond 20
Chipped Emerald 3x Crude Emerald 20
Chipped Ruby 3x Crude Ruby 20
Chipped Sapphire 3x Crude Sapphire 20
Chipped Topaz 3x Crude Topaz 20
Skull 3x Chipped Skull 40
Amethyst 3x Chipped Amethyst 40
Diamond 3x Chipped Diamond 40
Emerald 3x Chipped Emerald 40

Sapphire 3x Chipped Sapphire 40
Topaz 3x Chipped Topaz 40

Additional sockets can be added to your gear if you acquire a Scattered Prism, which can be dropped by defeating certain Diablo 4 world bosses. These allow more than one gem to be applied to your gear for further buffs and benefits.

How to unlock the Diablo 4 jeweler

When your character reaches level 20, you will trigger the priority quest Gem Crafting, which unlocks the Diablo 4 jeweler Kratia in Kyovashad. Once you complete the quest, you can interact with any jeweler in villages across Sanctuary. To check if a town has a jeweler, hover over the waypoint in your Diablo 4 map and check for the gem icon.

That’s all for Diablo 4 gems for now, but we’ll be regularly updating this guide as we proceed through the game.
