If you’re looking for a fresh MOBA experience after sinking hundreds of hours into League of Legends, or if you’re completely new to the genre, you can give Smite 2 a go as a free-to-play game incredibly soon. With a diverse cast of deities from myriad cultures, stories, and myths, Smite 2 is poised to already challenge LoL. So, it’s time to brush up on your tactics if you’re not already in the game.
That’s right, the free-to-play Smite 2 release date has finally been confirmed, and we don’t have long to wait before the open beta is available for everyone. The MOBA has already had an alpha, and multiple paid founder editions since 2024, and since then developer Titan Forge Games has been listening to feedback, and even has loads more content coming to Smite 2.
Five new gods – Aladdin, Geb, Ullr, Agni, and Mulan – are all coming to the game alongside the F2P launch, with 20 new aspects that change the play styles for the same number of gods. Aladdin arrives on January 13, while the other four are live now. There are also the new Joust, Duel, and Assault game modes, alongside new items, text chat functionality, and some performance optimizations.
Titan Forge Games also acknowledges that Smite 2’s alpha had many lacking systems, and hopes that the extra gods and modes are exactly what the community needs. According to the team, Smite 2 will have 45 gods and six game modes.
Keep in mind that while Smite 2 is launching as a free-to-play game, there are still multiple editions that you can choose to pay for if you want. These include the Standard and Ultimate Founder’s editions, which range from $30 / £25 to $100 / £80. These include in-game currency, access to all Smite 2 gods forever, skins, and other cosmetics.
Smite 2 launches as a free-to-play game on Tuesday January 14, with the open beta coming to Steam. You can find the game here.
