Whether you want to get rid of some bandits or want to declare war on the entire world, your army will not go anywhere if they don’t have at least something they can swing and shoot in their hands. Here is how to make gear for Militia in Manor Lords.
Manor Lords: How to make gear for Militia
There are two ways you can choose to begin equipping your Militia with their necessary weapons and armor. You can either make all the equipment by yourself, or you can choose to import all the gear from abroad. Either way has its ups and downs, so make sure to read on to discover which one is the best for you.
Use your Burgage Plot backyard extensions
The first step to creating your militia gear manufacturing system is to upgrade your Burgage Plots to create the appropriate backyard extensions. Level 2 is required for militia gear production to be able to be constructed. Be mindful, however, that contrary to Chicken or Goat Hides, assigning a family to either of the workshops below will lock them from changing jobs in the future:
- Blacksmith’s Workshop: Enabled production of tools, spears, and sidearms.
- Joiner’s Workshop: Enables production of wooden parts and shields.
- Armorer’s Workshop (requires Basic Armormaking development): Enables production of helmets, mail armor, and plate armor.
- Fletcher’s Workshop: Enables production of warbows.
Set up an Iron mining and processing operation
To make weapons, you will need to mine iron, otherwise your whole venture will fail since swords cannot be made out of thin air. Therefore, building a Mining Pit on top of an iron deposit will make sure that you will have your iron needs met. However, you will need to process said iron to make Iron Slabs, essential for weapon crafting.
That is where the Bloomery enters the equation. This building will process your Iron Ore and transform it into Iron Slabs, which are adequately prepared for weapon crafting. All you need to do now is to access the Militia tab and select the units you want to be trained to join your army.
Import Militia gear through trading
As you can see, creating your own weapon and armor manufacture is lengthy and costly given the fact that you need a whole lot of buildings to be able to upgrade your Burgage Plots. However, if you have some – and by some I mean a lot – of Regional Wealth to spare, then you can certainly import your Militia weapons and armor from the Trading Post.
This will, however, cost you a fortune, and if you are starting up your fresh new playthrough, then perhaps I suggest just growing your city from the ground up until you are comfortable with undertaking either path. If you, however, want to make Trading Costs lower, then you can purchase the Trade Logistics developments which will limit every single new trade route opening fee to 25 Regional Wealth.
