The Key of Admittance puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy is something that might perplex many players. As you explore the castle, you’ll reach a section near the Headmaster’s Office. There’s a curious-looking door with many locks, but you can’t seem to do anything with it. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy guide to help you solve the Key of Admittance puzzle.

Hogwarts Legacy Key of Admittance puzzle guide
The Key of Admittance puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy isn’t something you could do early in the game. In fact, the only way you’d be able to complete the task here is by progressing further in the campaign (i.e., the season has changed to winter).

Here’s the gist:
- You will gain access to the Faculty Tower when you do The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament, which also rewards you with the Alohomora spell (more on this in a while).
- The corridor leads to the Trophy Room fast travel point and, beyond that, you’ll see the gargoyle which should take you to the Headmaster’s Office. However, this will be inaccessible for the time being.
- The Key of Admittance doorway is in the same hallway opposite the phoenix gargoyle.
- As for the Headmaster’s Office, you can only gain access after you complete the Niamh Fitzgerald’s Trial quest.
- Here’s the kicker: the Headmaster’s Office has doors that have high-level locks. That’s why you should also collect Demiguise Moons to upgrade your Alohomora lockpicking spell.

Now, assuming you’ve done all the above, here’s what you need to do to solve the Hogwarts Legacy Key of Admittance puzzle:
- During The Polyjuice Plot/Niamh Fitzgerald’s Trial, you’ll speak the password to the gargoyle so you can enter the Headmaster’s Office.
- After that quest and once you’re free-roaming, return to the Headmaster’s Office. Check a door to your left (it has a level 1 lock).
- Climb the steps to the top and open the door (it has a level 3 lock).
- This is the Headmaster’s Upper Study, the highest point in the castle. You’ll receive the “Room With a View” achievement for this.
- Grab the stuff here, most especially the Key of Admittance on the desk.

- Head back downstairs and go to the opposite side of the hallway from the gargoyle statue.
- Interact with the mysterious door. The locks will be opened automatically.
- Inside, you’ll find a small nook that has a Legendary Chest and a Field Guide Page.
