When is the Life is Strange: Double Exposure release date? Max Caulfield is back, the Life is Strange hero returns with brand-new powers, new friends, and a new murder to prevent. Max is a photographer-in-residence at Caledon University, mentoring young artists. So far, it looks like she has moved on from the events of the first game, though in the reveal, Square Enix acknowledged that the game welcomes new players, but also echoes the past. Though it’s not clear how much our previous endings will affect the game, Nine Deck Games stressed the endings will remain ‘canon’ to each player.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure has been announced as a murder mystery game. One of Max’s close friends, Safi, is murdered and Max tries to use her old skills of rewinding time to prevent the death. Instead, she opens a parallel timeline, one where Safi is alive. She can move between timelines to piece together who killed Safi, and why. It all sounds a lot more grown up than previous Life is Strange story game outings, which usually deal with the complexities of teenage emotions and coming of age stories.

The Life is Strange: Double Exposure release date is Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The release date was announced alongside the reveal of the game and announcement trailer.

Life is Strange Double Exposure trailers

The first glimpse we got of Max’s new story was the announce trailer released in early June. Caledon University is nestled among a snowy landscape, with the voiceover of Max saying, ‘I swore I’d never use my powers again.’ Max is now older, working at the university alongside her close friends Safi and Moses.

The trailer has a pretty dark beginning, showing Safi being killed at night in the woods and Max finding her body. In Max’s attempt to investigate as she can still hear Safi’s voice, she ends up using her powers to create a parallel timeline, one in which Safi is alive. She’s able to use her powers to move between the two realities to try and solve the murder.

Life is Strange Double Exposure gameplay

In the extended gameplay trailer, we got a closer look at the world and characters, including the lighter moments that Life is Strange is famous for. The trailer, however, quickly descends into a spooky scene of Max fainting and hearing things, before hearing a gunshot and running through the woods at night to find her friend.

As Max hasn’t used her abilities in a while, she’s a little rusty and when she tries to utilize them, she ends up splitting into another timeline. This new supernatural ability to move between timelines gives her a chance at solving Safi’s murder. One of her new abilities is called Pulse, which lets her catch a glimpse of people and objects in the other timeline while remaining in her own timeline. This means she can eavesdrop on conversations, follow suspects, and appear without anyone knowing.

Another ability she has is Shift, which means she can physically move timelines in specific places called Shift Spots. So she can talk to suspects and even Safi, allowing her to gain information she can’t in the current timeline. Nine Deck Games has said that the timelines are distinctly different, so hopefully we won’t be too confused when moving between the two!
