Ever wondered what Marvel character is the best at Rocket League? Well, Marvel Rivals’ new event will (kinda) help you answer that question. The hero shooter is getting a new limited-time mode as part of the freshly-revealed Marvel Rivals Spring Festival event, and it certainly draws inspiration from the vehicular soccer game. During the event, you can also obtain a free skin, work your way towards new Gallery Cards, and more.

Fresh off the back of its Winter Celebration Event (which was a treat for all you Jeff the Land Shark lovers out there) Marvel Rivals’ Spring Festival event celebrates the upcoming Lunar New Year. While that theme is hardly surprising given the time of year, what is surprising is the new LTM that’s hitting the free Steam game.

Influenced by one of the most addictive multiplayer games ever made, in my book, the new Clash of Dancing Lions mode has major Rocket League energy. Pitting two teams of three heroes against each other on a mini soccer pitch encased in walls and a ceiling, the aim is to score more goals than your opponent by getting the ball into the opponent’s goal zone. You can pass the ball between your teammates in order to keep possession and you can tackle opposing players to win the ball back.

NetEase is now two-for-two when it comes to its LTMs being heavily inspired by other multiplayer titles – the Winter Celebration’s Jeff-themed game mode was Marvel Rivals’ take on Splatoon, and now Rocket League is being honored in the same way.

Elsewhere in the event, all players will be receiving a free costume for Star-Lord, and the likes of Black Widow and Iron Fist will also be getting Lunar New Year-themed skins that you can purchase from the store. There’ll be plenty of other cosmetics to claim throughout the event, but we’re still awaiting confirmation on exactly what’s included.

If you’re a collector of Gallery Cards and love completing the in-game comics, Winter Festival will also feature a new Gallery Card customization event called Fortune and Colors.

The Marvel Rivals Spring Festival event begins on Thursday, January 23 at 1am PST / 4am EST / 9am GMT / 10am CET.
