When I think of iconic PC genres, theme park builders are easily at the top of the list. From RollerCoaster Tycoon to Theme Park, the world of management and strategy sim games wouldn’t be the same without them. Then Planet Coaster 2 came along. A sequel to one of the best entries in the amusement building world, it didn’t quite hit the mark at launch last year. That could all change as we get into 2025, however, as Frontier Developments details what we can expect in a new roadmap.

Planet Coaster 2 had a lot to live up to. The original strategy and simulation game is one of the most beloved on PC, with many players putting in hundreds of hours to make the perfect rollercoaster park. The sequel, on the other hand, has so far struggled to have the same impact. With only 60% of the 6,600 Steam user reviews being positive, Planet Coaster 2 is currently sitting at a ‘mixed’ rating on Valve’s platform.

The Planet Coaster 2 launch reviews were split. Players disliked a UI that felt built for console and was thus hampered on PC, while others thought the sequel had gone backward in some key ways. Some players found a lot to love with Planet Coaster 2, however, so it’s not been all bad. That isn’t the end of the story, though, as Frontier Developments has just detailed a roadmap of upcoming features, enhancements, and fixes.

“We are continuing to investigate crash and bug reports with a view to addressing these as quickly as possible. We’ll be sharing a full list of changes with each update,” Frontier Developments explains.

The next Planet Coaster 2 update is coming in February, and it’s packed. You can expect two new rides in the stock coaster and a returning Pathos 3. There are also custom video billboards and speakers, synchronized coasters, and interchangeable coaster cars. As for adjustments, we’re getting improved guest navigation, multi-selection, guest, economy, and management enhancements, as well as ongoing stability improvements.

After that, the next update is in March. We get part two of the stock coasters and a secretive returning ride, alongside adjustments to ride attendants and more general improvements. There’s also going to be a scenery rotation toggle, career maps being visible in sandbox mode, more varied movement of guests/rafts on special pieces, and guests jettisoning off flumes as well.

As for the two updates that follow, Frontier Developments teases that these are currently “under construction.” We can expect some “new features in April’s update as well,” but we won’t know what these are until closer to the time.
