The Monster Hunter Wilds beta is finally upon us – PC players have been patiently awaiting their turn to try the new Capcom RPG after a PS5-only test ran earlier in the week. Now, you can finally download the MHW beta on Steam. There’s just one problem: if you try to play it at the time of writing, you’ll be hit with a message telling you the beta is “Unable to connect to server.” Fortunately, there’s an easy fix.
The simple reason you’re seeing a Monster Hunter Wilds unable to connect to server message (error code R1187-0-0:3) is that the beta isn’t live yet. The Monster Hunter Wilds beta start time is Thursday October 31 at 8pm PT / 11pm ET, or Friday November 1 at 3am GMT / 4am CET. You’ll just have to wait a little bit longer to play the new RPG – although that hasn’t stopped more than 25,000 players from trying to do so on Steam so far.
I’ve been spending some time with the PlayStation 5 version (I promise I’m not trying to rub salt in the wound here) and it’s excellent. While the frame rate does certainly leave a little to be desired, having a longer stretch of time to tackle the four beta monsters – in particular the mighty Rey Dau – has been an absolute delight.
Multiplayer has so far worked smoothly too, although I’m eager to test both the PC version and Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds crossplay functionality once the rest of the platforms have access. As noted, you won’t have long to wait – just take this as a welcome opportunity for everyone to get the beta downloaded ahead of time.
Lost for what to do while you wait? Read my Monster Hunter Wilds preview to get a closer impression of what you can expect from the beta, which contains much the same content but without the strict time limit. You’ll also be able to bring your character over to the full game once the Monster Hunter Wilds release date arrives in 2025, if you like.
If that’s still not enough, check in on all the Monster Hunter Wilds monsters we’ve seen so far, or pass the time playing one of the best games like Monster Hunter on PC.
