There are few sights as chilling for killers in Dead by Daylight as seeing a whole team of survivors all equipped with flashlights. It lets you know that you’re probably in for a nightmare of a match, with you being bullied on all sides by a bunch of P100 Megs all pulling off saves and stopping you from seeing anything. At least, that’s how it feels, but a slew of stats released by developer Behaviour Interactive show that conversely, flashlights aren’t that big of a deal.
Every month or so Behaviour lifts the lid on how Dead by Daylight is performing across a bunch of different areas. These stats posts have given fans plenty of insight into the horror game, such as learning that DnD killer Vecna proved to be fairly unpopular. The most recent post shows, among the other statistics, that flashlights don’t seem to be as impactful as you might have thought.
Generally speaking, in trials where flashlights are brought, the killer is only blinded a total of 1.44 times. When a flashlight is found in a match, that number plummets to 0.18 blinds. This means that survivors are generally failing to blind killers, and while this is of course an average, it does imply that most killers are able to go about their business unbothered by flashlights.
Of course this stat doesn’t take into account perks like Lightborn which makes killers immune to blinding, so it’s entirely possible that the prevalence of this anti-flashlight ability is what’s twisting the numbers. Or it could be that it’s simply quite hard to blind killers regularly, with survivors struggling to utilize flashlights to maximum effect.
Elsewhere in this stats post a few other numerical nuggets have rolled loose. For example, Behaviour has showed off that the Singularity rework was a success, with the android being played in double the amount of matches it was previously. Survivors are also more altruistic than you might have thought, healing others roughly four times as much as they heal themselves.
Also, if you thought you were seeing The Huntress all the time in the previous 2v8 mode then you were right – she was picked a colossal 32% of the time, with The Wraith and The Trapper coming in as the two runners-up.
