According to Nexus Mods, the most popular The Witcher 3 creation is a HD texture pack. Clocking in at an immense 5.6 million downloads, this project reworks a countless amount of the game’s models and textures to make them look better, without sacrificing CD Projekt Red’s artistic intent. The mod made a stunning game look even better, and thanks to CDPR’s next gen update, it now has a sequel. So if you’ve been itching to replay Geralt’s adventure ahead of The Witcher 4, this is the perfect excuse.
Called ‘The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project Next Gen Edition,’ this mod is about enhancement. Modder ‘Halk Hogan’ has completely overhauled The Witcher 3’s visuals, with textures, models, materials, and more revamped to look better than ever. “The number of these changes can be counted in thousands,” Hogan explains, adding that “all this is aimed at making the game more detailed, realistic, consistent and as faithful as possible reflecting the atmosphere of the dirty world of the Witcher.” The next gen port already made the game look better than ever, but this The Witcher 3 mod takes it to a whole new level.
Hogan has reworked many of The Witcher 3’s textures to be 4K, while every minute detail – from the moss on rooftops to the polygons in a wheel – has been improved. Whether you’re looking at the RPG’s world up close or from afar, everything appears more detailed. Hogan even says that everything is “consistent with the original CDPR artistic vision of The Witcher 3,” and you can tell.
All of Hogan’s reworked The Witcher 3 assets have specially customized shaders and materials, and this gives many objects an even more realistic look than before. When you view Hogan’s new assets in isolation it can be difficult to tell the difference a lot of the time, but the handy side-by-side comparisons show just how much better the game looks with the mod installed.
You can find Halk Hogan’s The Witcher 3 visual overhaul mod right here, alongside some instructions to help you install the creation on your PC. If for some reason you’re playing CDPR’s older version of The Witcher 3, Hogan also made a HD rework mod for the base game back in 2020 – so you can make Geralt look better no matter what. Otherwise, we’re just going to have to wait for The Witcher 4 release date.
Hogan’s work doesn’t stop at The Witcher 3, either, as they’ve also created HD rework projects for other games, overhauling Starfield’s visuals and improving the textures of Cyberpunk 2077, if you want those worlds to look even better.
