Baldur’s Gate 3 lets players make lots of choices. Some choices seem simple on the face of things, but there typically are competing interests at work in the background. You’re unlikely to satisfy everyone with every move you make. Lady Esther and her attempt to acquire the Githyanki Egg are a case in point. Here’s our choice guide explaining whether you should give Lady Esther the Githyanki Egg in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – should you give Lady Esther the Githyanki Egg?
When you meet Lady Esther, she reveals her search for the Githyanki Egg. Since she can’t get it herself, she asks you to fetch one for her. Possible moral issues aside, the best option is to give Lady Esther the Githyanki Egg.
Before you can give Lady Esther the egg, you need to find her and you need to find the egg. If you haven’t already located the NPC, check our guide explaining where to find Lady Esther. The short version is that you’ll find her not far from the entrance to the actual Mountain Pass region. You visit that location late during your trip through Act 1. It has a few enemy encounters, which I try to avoid when my level isn’t five or higher.
Finding the Githyanki Egg
Once you find Lady Esther, you’re already fairly close to the Githyanki Egg. Head to the nearby fork in the road and travel east to reach Rosymorn Monestary at the end of a Cable Car ride. Follow the circular path to the base of the hill and the Rosymorn Monastery waypoint. Then continue around the outside of the building to witness a scene involving Corliss.
After the scene concludes, you are at the edge of a large courtyard area. From there, descend cliffs and use ledges and vines to proceed to the lower left (south). Along the cliffs in that direction, you’ll find a Hidden Passage that allows you to enter the Creche Y’llek.
Near the entrance to Creche Y’llek, talk your way out of a fight. Continue through a door and find the local waypoint. Next, make your way toward the western portion of this area. It houses the Hatchery. Cross the murky green water near the entrance by hopping along boulders. Once you climb to higher ground, avoid traps as you proceed cautiously toward a man standing in the distance. His name is Varsh Ko’kuu.
Before you talk to Varsh Ko’kuu, save your progress. Then interact with the man to try and talk him out of a Githyanki Egg. You’ll have to pass multiple Persuasion checks, which can be difficult even as a charismatic Bard if the dice don’t roll your way. As an aside, I suggest not admitting that you came to steal an egg. I thought he might appreciate honesty. He does not. You’ll have better luck if you tell him how empty the hatchery looks.
Once you convince him, you’ll receive Varsh Ko’kuu’s Boots. Equip them immediately. They provide protection against Acid. Jump out to the area ahead and grab the Githyanki Egg.
What to do with the Githyanki Egg
After you acquire the Githyanki Egg, meet with Lady Esther again. Although you can try to keep the egg, she’ll attack you if you do that and you can no longer purchase her wares. Unless you’re hoping for such a violent outcome, hand over the egg for your meager reward: 265 gold.
Before you make any exchange, buy any last items Lady Esther offers. Once she has the egg, she invites you to visit the lodge at Baldur’s Gate and readies her belongings to leave. Absence of Lady Esther’s smiling face aside, there’s no down side to this approach. Even Lae’zel sees no drawbacks, and you can rest assured she would let you know if she did. Everybody wins (except maybe the egg).
