Sintopia is Cities Skylines 2 meets Black and White, in hell

One of my favorite TV shows ever made is Hazbin Hotel. Revolving around a merry band of misfits who are valiantly trying to entice sinners into a Twilight Zone Tower of Terror-style 1920s hotel so that they can be redeemed and sent to heaven, its devilish charm and iconic soundtrack is just to die for. While Team 17’s newly announced city builder Sintopia extends a little bit beyond hotel management, it immediately put me in mind of Charlie and co’s playful (and vaguely violent) adventures, and as a result it immediately found a spot on my wishlist.

It’s a happy day in hell, folks, and you’re in the driver’s seat. Part Black and White-style god game, part city building game a la Cities Skylines, Sintopia tasks you with enticing the denizens of the Overworld to commit various sins, in turn earning them eternal damnation which, of course, lures them into your clutches.

You’re a representative (or Imployee) of Hell Inc., which reminds me immediately of I.M.P from Hazbin’s sister show, Helluva Boss. As new souls arrive in your domain, it’s your job to ferry them to their respective hovels, and keep them entertained with hell’s myriad facilities.

In the Overworld you’ll be manipulating the population, causing natural disasters, and causing general chaos. Down in hell, you’ll be ‘helping them’ repent for their sins by sending them to the relevant ‘sinologist,’ housed in various establishments like the ‘pridologist’ or ‘lustologist.’ Once they’ve been redeemed, fire them back upwards, cash in your paycheck, and do it all again.

You’ll need to keep the cycle intact, however. If too many evildoers accumulate in your hellish metropolis, they’ll start to corrupt everything. Demonic invasions may sound fun in theory, but in practice I’m not so sure.

While Team 17 hasn’t given us any information on when Sintopia will release, it has immediately ended up as a ‘must-have.’ While it isn’t exactly Hazbin Hotel: The Game, it’s pretty damn close, and I’m far too excited about its premise. You can add it to your own Steam wishlist here.
