Smite is one of the all time great tactical multiplayer games, but its successor hasn’t gotten off to the smoothest of starts. Sure, Smite 2 is currently in an early access alpha state, but with mixed Steam reviews and Valve’s own new MOBA project Deadlock stealing a lot of attention in the genre right now, things could be going better. However, Titan Forge is hard at work trying to turn things around, and what better way to generate some excitement than to reveal the next 19 gods that will be added to the game over the course of the next three months or so.
Since launching in alpha in the spring, one area where Smite 2 has really excelled is in pumping new gods into the game at a rapid rate. Of course, when I say ‘new,’ almost all of these characters were present in its predecessor, but relaunching them with a fresh lick of Unreal Engine 5 paint is still a big old job. Right now, 31 gods are playable in the revamped MOBA, but Titan Forge has just unveiled its plans to take that number up to 50 by the end of January 2025.
In the studio’s list of 19 upcoming gods, players will be pleased to see one totally new god exclusive to Smite 2 who currently remains unnamed. Titan Forge also outlines its release date plans for each batch of gods, although it does admit its final January wave “could spill into early February.”
On November 12, three gods will hit Smite 2 – Nemesis, Izanami, and Khepri. Later in the month on November 26 we’ll be getting Thor, Cupid, and Poseidon. Another trio will arrive on December 10 with Medusa, Pele, and Aphrodite joining the roster. January’s first wave will welcome our anonymous all-new god alongside Ullr, Agni, Geb, and Mulan. And the final wave in January will contain Rama, Hun Batz, Vulcan, Cabrakan, and Achilles.
While this news was revealed during a livestream from the devs, it has also been posted in the artistic medium of an exquisitely-designed PowerPoint presentation – is that… is that glitter text? Nice.
As mentioned, things haven’t been easy for Smite 2. It currently sits on a disappointing 55% rating on Steam, and a round of layoffs also hit publisher Hi-Rez earlier in the year that have no doubt unsettled things. However, the company has now dedicated all of its efforts to Smite 2 after its internal reorganization, which should still spell good news for the MOBA.
