It’s been a great year for glorious, chaos-filled co-op games, with Space Marine 2 following in the footsteps of Helldivers 2 to unleash a barrage of bug-blasting business upon us all. It quickly earned itself a place among the best Warhammer 40k games, and developer Saber Interactive has continued to push updates and additions since launch. Its latest such instalment is due in the next couple of weeks, and it’s looking packed. Set for “the first half of December,” Space Marine 2 update 5.0 will bring the long-awaited Dark Angels Chapter Pack to the game alongside a new operation and an essential customization upgrade.
The new Space Marine 2 operation is called Obelisk, and it takes place in parallel to the closing events of the main Space Marine 2 campaign (no major spoilers here, but you’ve been warned nonetheless). The operation sees your team sent to Demerium in order to rotate a replica of the obelisk and disrupt the flow of energy protecting the Aurora, all while the final act of the Warhammer 40k game’s story is getting underway.
Among the forces you’ll fight as you head there, you’ll face a dangerous new Majoris enemy, the Tzaangor Enlightened, which has also been added to all the PvE operations that involve Chaos enemies. Bestowed with the blessing of Tzeentch, these powerful troublemakers have been known to carry both spears and greatbows, so it’s likely they’ll be dangerous at any range. They also have an uncanny ability to deliver precise strikes to enemy weak spots, so try not to let them get a chance to do so.
The update will bring some other key features as well – crucially, new customization options are on the way. The highly anticipated Dark Angels Chapter Pack has a set of new styles including the Dark Angels Champion, a unique armor set for the Bulwark class, and visuals for the Auto Bolt Rifle, the Plasma Pistol, the Power Sword, and the Storm Shield. It also includes heraldry items for the Second Foundings and Successor Chapters of the Dark Angels.
Look out for other new armor pieces, such as the Mark VIII Ravenwing helmet, a common fan favorite. What I’m actually most excited for, however, is a small but much-desired addition: the ability to customize your suit’s eye lenses, with a range of fifteen different color options to choose between. Rounding out the update is the introduction of Frame Generation DLSS and FSR 3 support, which should help ensure Space Marine 2 runs as well as possible across various hardware types.
Space Marine 2 update 5.0 is set to launch in the first half of December. You can currently buy the game with a 20% discount available until Wednesday December 4, meaning you’ll pay $47.99 / £43.99 for your copy. You can catch up on the latest community update or buy the game on Steam.
