The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake could be just months away, and we’re not talking about the magnificent fan-project that is Skyblivion. According to a report, an official remake of one of the most memorable entries in Bethesda’s action RPG series is just around the corner. Famous for its Patrick Stewart-voiced emperor and near-psychic guards, this beloved game, which also featured Sean Bean, may well be with us as soon as spring.
There’s a special place in many gamers’ hearts for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and if one report is right, the remake of this fantasy action RPG game will arrive in the next few months, potentially as early as spring.
Rumours have long been circulating about an Oblivion remake. Documents, revealed during the Microsoft vs FTC case, appeared to confirm its existence, but neither Microsoft nor the Microsoft-owned Bethesda Softworks have gone on record to say as much. The leaked document suggested it was set for a 2024 release, but that obviously didn’t happen.
Now, according to a report from The Verge’s Tom Warren, it’s set to drop in the next few months. He states that he first heard about it last year and, at the time, Microsoft was targeting spring or summer. So, assuming the project hasn’t hit another delay, we could be playing The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion – The Remake in a few months time.
There’s so, so much to love about Oblivion, though for me, it’s the Dark Brotherhood’s reverse whodunnit quest that made the game shine. I can’t wait to relive that in Unreal Engine 5 and after buying Skyrim several times over, you can bet I’m giving Bethesda my money for an actual remake. That said, you may not need to. It seems extremely like that, as with virtually all Bethesda games, it’ll end up PC Game Pass.
The one snag is that the Skyblivion fan team have been working for literal years porting Oblivion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If this remake does drop before Skyblivion is finished, it could put a serious dent in their morale.
Warren also reported that Gears of War: E-Day, was originally on course for a 2025 release. This Gears of War prequel will let you experience the horrors of Emergence Day, when the Locust rose to attack humanity. Don’t count on it ending well.
We’ll have to wait to see if he’s on the money but he’s been relatively reliable to my date. I have my fingers crossed and a Dark Brotherhood cosplay cloak on order.
In the meantime, if you’re thinking about diving into Skyrim, we’ve got the best Skyrim mods, or if you want to roam further afield, we’ve rounded up the best fantasy games.
