Back 4 Blood is widely regarded as the greatest co-op zombie game ever. Resident Evil gives us some of the scariest undead experiences. The likes of DayZ are touted for their intense focus on survival. But in discussions about iconic zombie games, Dying Light is a name that should come up more often than it does. While the original is great, Dying Light 2 is a far more accomplished iteration of the open-world, parkour-infused zombie slaying game, and right now it’s super cheap on Steam. In fact, it’s dropped to its lowest ever price.
Dying Light 2 is fast approaching its third birthday, but there’s a far bigger celebration going on right now – it’s the tenth anniversary of the entire Dying Light series. As a result, the first game is getting a lot of love, but Dying Light 2 hasn’t been left out of the revelries. The zombie game is adding new bounty rewards inspired by items from its predecessor, and at the end of the anniversary event it’ll be making its challenging, roguelike Tower Raid mode a permanent fixture.
The main highlight though is the huge discount that developer Techland has just slapped on Dying Light 2. While the base game was generously-sized and played pretty well at launch, things have only gotten bigger and slicker over the last three years. While there are plenty of other great open-world zombie games around, none give you movement like Dying Light 2’s. Wall running, acrobatic leaps and rolls, grappling hooks, and paragliders all give you loads of freedom to traverse the world of Villedor.
While a day-night cycle is hardly a novel concept, in Dying Light 2 it does really impact how you go about things – zombies become much tougher and quicker when the sun goes down. If you want to run errands, meet NPCs, and simply explore Villedor at a more leisurely pace, the day is the time to do that. At night, it’s all about survival.
The movement and the game-altering day-night cycle definitely set this game apart, and while I’m not for one minute going to claim it’s the absolute best zombie game ever, it certainly gets overlooked.
If you want to give it a go yourself, Dying Light 2 is currently 67% off on Steam, making it just $19.79 / £18.48. That’s the lowest price the game has ever been, and that price is for the enhanced Reloaded Edition that packages all of its story expansions together too. This offer ends on Monday, February 10. If you want to grab it, head to its Steam page here.
If my glowing endorsement and this huge discount isn’t enough to convince you, that’s all good – here are some other brilliant open-world games and parkour games you can play instead.
