Baldur’s Gate 3 is known for having incredible romance storylines, so we’re here to have every romance ranked from worst to best.

It’s hard to place some of these lower in the list, simply because there isn’t a single bad companion to romance. This list is just my opinion, based upon how well done the romance scenes and relationships are.

8. Lae’zel

Lae’zel is a tough nut to crack. On the outside, she’s prickly and stubborn. But once you get to know her, you’ll realize just how vulnerable she can be. One of the many Githyanki victims of Vlaakith’s reign, Lae’zel’s romance is quite interesting if you try to convince her that her queen is lying to her.

If your relationship becomes stronger, she may come onto you quite fast. If you’re ready for it, it can make for quite the romantic escapade. I appreciate some of the romantic scenes you get with her during Act 3, but compared to the other companions, I don’t think she’s the strongest contender.

7. Minthara

Minthara lovers rejoice as you can now save the Druid Grove and still recruit Minthara! She’s perfect for the enemies-to-lovers trope, but she may be too powerful of a force for your romantic interests. I like the way Larian Studios depicted her vulnerability and soft side.

I do believe Minthara is quite underrated when it comes to romance candidates, as you help her come to terms with the Absolute’s influence over her. She’s a unique choice, but not on the top of my list as the best.

6. Gale

You can get quite a lot of touching scenes with Gale, as he’s one of the main party members. Many players may find Gale boring or annoying, but he’s a lovely gentleman who would treat his partner with the utmost respect and love.

Thinking of the romantic scene with him and your character on the boat, I put Gale a bit higher on the list. And up until the very end, Gale continues to try and sacrifice himself. It pulls at my heartstrings for any Gale fan who’s romancing this selfless Wizard.

5. Halsin

Ah yes, the iconic bear scene with Halsin. No, I won’t be talking much about that. But Halsin is otherwise a great companion to romance throughout Baldur’s Gate 3. He’s a strong force, but incredibly soft and kind to everyone he cares for.

If you want someone to sweep you off your feet and treat you right, go for Halsin. Although, if you don’t follow the right paths in Acts 1 and 2, you could easily lose out on romancing him, which is disappointing. But if you do manage to woo him, the romantic scenes can go from sweet to steamy instantly.

4. Wyll

Out of all the romance candidates in Baldur’s Gate 3, Wyll is the most charming. This noble Warlock knows exactly what to say and can easily swoon you with his lovely words. I especially love the scene of you and Wyll dancing with each other.

There’s a lot to offer in quality with Wyll’s romance, but with quantity, I wish there was more. Despite this, what you do get to experience with Wyll is a magical romance worth your time.

3. Shadowheart

Shadowheart is one of the central pillars of Baldur’s Gate 3’s main story, as she has two paths to choose by the end of Act 2. One will lock you out of a romance, while the other can offer you a chance to have a wonderful relationship with her.

This troubled Cleric is surprisingly romantic but also needs your guidance to follow the right path. She has some incredible scenes, whether or not you romance her. But I think she’s extremely deserving of the top three romances.

2. Karlach

If you want a strong force of a woman who could easily beat you up, Karlach is the woman for you. Although she would never do such a thing. Despite being a raging Barbarian, Karlach is probably the most caring of all the companions.

She just wants to be able to survive in Faerun and hug somebody. Karlach yearns for a loving embrace, and if you help her in her quest, you can give that to her. I love the arc she goes through throughout the game, despite some of her endings being quite sad.

Every Baldurs Gate 3 romance, ranked from worst to best astarion

1. Astarion

Maybe I’m biased, as I chose to romance Astarion in my playthrough, but he’s the most interesting of the companions to romance. He goes from acting and pretending for lust, to genuinely falling in love with you.

After everything he has been through and everything he goes through during Act 3, he’s more than deserving of a loving partner. I thoroughly enjoyed the romance scenes I got with him, and the possibility of the romance going in another direction if he becomes a Vampire Ascendant is an intriguing plot.

With that behind us, you should now check out the best party compositions in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you’re unsure of how to pair these companions.
