How to buy and forge weapons in Like a Dragon: Ishin

Some truly powerful weapons are available late in the game. You need to start working toward them early in your adventure, due to the effort and associated expense.

To buy and forge weapons in Like a Dragon: Ishin, first purchase basic equipment at the Arms Dealer, then bring those weapons to the blacksmith to forge them. The weapons you can buy outright are weak, but you can improve them a lot using various crafting materials.

The Arms Dealer, located in the West Umekojicho portion of the Rakugai district, sells basic goods such as the Bundle Blade and Handy Blade. Once you improve your relationship with the man, he will also offer the Worn Sword. These weapons are your base material. Take them to Kurogane Smithing, not far to the northeast in North Umekojicho.

At Kurogane Smithing, start with a basic sword and add the necessary materials to craft it into something better. For instance, the Bundle Blade can be enhanced to produce either the Keen Blade or the Handy Blade (which you could have simply purchased outright from the Arms Dealer). In turn, you can modify those weapons to create many others.

To craft some of the more advanced weapons, you must increase the level of competency shown by the blacksmith at Kurogane Smithing. He may be able to eventually turn the Bundle Blade into the considerably more powerful Oni-maru, but he needs a lot of practice first. You can help him get that practice by having him forge weaker weapons. You can also donate blades, which slowly fills the meter but is expensive.

Crafting materials required to make advanced blades are often rare. You can most readily find them by completing missions at the barracks, and sometimes by defeating enemy mobs. They may drop more common resources such as Gold Chunk. No matter what, the path to a great weapon is difficult. Decide early on which ones you are willing to work to obtain.

Like a Dragon: Ishin can be purchased on Steam and the Xbox marketplace.
