In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you find a variety of side adventures and quests. Some of those activities lead to terrific loot, including a series of chores you can complete in Thyphlo Ruins. Here is our guide telling you how to complete The Long Dragon side quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom – how to complete The Long Dragon side quest

You encounter The Long Dragon side quest as you explore Thyphlo Ruins. The ruins wait at the center of a lake to the north of the Great Hyrule Forest. The side quest is part of a series of quests you must complete to get the Dusk Claymore.

To complete The Long Dragon side quest, use Riju’s lightning ability to strike some stone and reveal a hidden chamber. She only grants you that ability once you help her clear the Lightning Temple. It might be a while before you can attempt the side quest.

Once you clear the Lightning Temple, travel to Thyphlo Ruins. If you have already activated the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower, you can fast travel. From the tower’s steps, head forward and to the left. A researcher has set up camp in the area. Talk to him and agree to work as his assistant to activate the Investigate the Thyphlo Ruins side adventure. He presents large stone tablets that correspond to temples you have cleared.

The dragon that protects the mountain of death

Read the far right tablet to activate The Long Dragon side quest. The writing references a ‘dragon that protects the mountain of death.’ It also says to display ‘the power of the Sage of Lightning.’

From the tablet, travel to the island’s southeastern shore. I simply climbed over the wall near the slabs to save some time. Where land meets water, look for a stone statue shaped like a snarling dragon’s head. There are a few such statues along the shoreline. Make sure to find the one near the southeast side. Nearby, buried stone slabs lead along the island shore. Follow that makeshift spine to reach its tail end. There, you’ll encounter a flat stone area just past two stone pillars. The above map screenshot outlines the precise location.

Activate the Vow of Riju. Riju must be following you. Take out your bow and aim an arrow at the spine’s tail end. Fire a shot at the tail and lightning should strike. The lightning causes the flat stone slab to rise and reveal a hidden chamber. You should see a treasure chest. Open the chest for three Topaz to complete The Long Dragon side quest.
