The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents players with a fresh opportunity to explore an expansive version of Hyrule first glimpsed in Breath of the Wild. There’s a lot of ground to cover, including familiar environments and much more besides. Sometimes, however, finding a favorite location from the previous game can prove difficult. Here is our guide explaining where to find the Great Plateau in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom – where to find the Great Plateau

As Breath of the Wild began, players stepped outside a cave and found themselves overlooking a vibrant environment filled with ruins, shrines, and dangerous enemies. If you played the game and you were like me, you probably thought that island in the sky was quite large. However, thorough exploration revealed it was only a small portion of the overall game, known as the Great Plateau.

You can still visit that location in the sequel, but it is no longer an island in Hyrule’s sky. To find the Great Plateau, head southwest from Lookout Landing. The plateau is a lot more grounded these days.

Begin your search for the Great Plateau at Lookout Landing. A road leads south, through the gate just beyond the stables.  Continue approximately due south along the road until you pass Hyrule Field Chasm. Then follow the main road southwest across Hyrule Field.

Proceed southwest, through and beyond the Hyrule Garrison Ruins. You’ll pass near the fortified Hyrule Field Skyview Tower.  Keeping to the road, proceed south from that tower to finally arrive at an intersection with a road running east-to-west ahead of the base of a high stone wall. From this intersection, you might normally travel west to reach Outskirt Stable, or east to quickly come to the Forest of Time. See the point on the above map screenshot.

At the intersection, the northern edge of the Great Plateau waits directly ahead of you. The high rock wall is part of its base. To reach the plateau, ascend one of its sides. I like to climb the wall directly past the intersection, to the right of the entrance to the Great Plateau Foothill Cave. There’s a low point you can scale to reach the area with the Great Plateau North Chasm. It’s a great starting point for any exploration both for the Great Plateau in the overworld and when you’re ready to explore the Depths.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
