In Octopath Traveler 2, there are eight base jobs that the game’s main cast fulfills. It’s possible to get a second job for each character using licenses but that second job isn’t just limited to the eight base jobs. There are an additional four secret jobs that the characters can access. This is our guide on how to unlock the Conjurer secret job in Octopath Traveler 2.

Note: For more information about the game, check out our Octopath Traveler 2 guides and features hub.

How to unlock Conjurer secret job in Octopath Traveler 2

To use Conjurer as a second job you will need to defeat all five bosses in The Five-Tiered Tower which can be found near the entrance to Castle Ku. This area is only accessible after clearing Chapter 5 of Hikari’s story.

The bosses found in The Five-Tiered Tower get stronger and stronger as you climb. Thankfully, you don’t have to defeat all the bosses back to back. You can heal up and prepare for each fight one by one without having to worry about losing progress.

Tier 1: Earning the right to get the Conjurer license in Octopath Traveler 2

The first opponent you will face is the Guide who wants you to prove that you can take on the tower. The Guide has 30,000 HP and is weak to Dagger, Bow, and Wind. This boss isn’t difficult at all as he hardly deals any damage. Avoid boosting while breaking his shield by sticking to regular skills. Once The Guide’s shields are broken, boost up and deal as much damage as possible.

Tier 2: Ichchadhari the Snake Charmer

The second opponent is Ichchadhari. She is a snake charmer who has 85,000 HP and is weak to Polearm, Dagger, Bow, and Lightning. Ichchadhari summons Ivory Snakes that have 22,000 HP and are weak to Sword, Axe, Ice, and Light.

To defeat Ichchadhari and take the next step to get the Conjurer license in Octopath Traveler 2, you first need to take down the Ivory Snake she spawns. Since it only has four Shields it isn’t difficult to break them and finish it off. Although she only spawns one to begin with, later on in the fight Ichchadhari will spawn two Ivory Snakes at once. So it’s useful to have access to area-of-effect attacks that hit the Ivory Snakes’ weaknesses.

Ichchadhari herself doesn’t hit that hard, but she has some frustrating attacks. Her three most troublesome attacks are Paralyzing Fang which inflicts Unconsciousness, Snake Session which inflicts Blindness, and Twin Snake Spin which saps a lot of SP. Be sure to bring along some way of consistently curing these status conditions plus SP recovery items.

Tier 3: Tyran the Seeker

Known as Tyran the Seeker, the third boss is a warrior who has 100,000 HP and is weak to Sword, Bow, Fire, and Dark. He only uses physical attacks and hits like a train if not dealt with suitably. Thankfully with some preparation, Tyran isn’t that hard to beat.

Since Tyran relies on physical attacks, you can lower his damage by either dropping his Physical Attack or raising your party’s Physical Defence. Watch out for his second ‘I See All’ which grants him the Counterattack buff, allowing him to return physical hits. With his exploitable weaknesses to Sword and Bow, it’s difficult to avoid his counterattacks entirely, but having a party member dedicated to healing to offset damage from counterattacks is worthwhile.

When Tyran’s health drops down, he will gain 10 Shields and begin charging up. If this charged attack lands, your party is as good as dead. Thankfully, you’ll get several turns to break him before this happens. Hikari and Ochette are strong here with Hikari having access to powerful multi-hit Sword attacks like Limb from Limb, and Ochette able to use multi-hit Bow attacks like Rainbow Shot via her provoke skill. With the right moves and the use of a supporting Apothecary or Cleric to heal, defeating Tyran isn’t too difficult.

Tier 4: Audnvarg

The fourth opponent that you’ll need to defeat to get the Conjurer license in Octopath Traveler 2 is Audnvarg. This fierce beast is extremely strong and has 100,000 HP with weaknesses to Axe, Bow, Fire, and Light during its first phase. On top of its monstrous strength, Audnvarg will eat one of your party members in phase one leaving you with one fewer option to break its shield.

It’s important for this fight that you have multi-hit moves that take advantage of Audnvarg’s weaknesses. For phase one, some good skills to use are Ochette’s Desert Apeking III provoke, and Hikari’s Frenzied Fire learned skill. These are powerful multi-hit Bow attacks that can break Audnvarg’s shields quickly. Once broken, boost up and deal as much damage as possible to get through to phase two.

During phase two, Audnvarg’s weaknesses change to Sword, Staff, Lightning, and Wind. Having Hikari with the Limb from Limb learned skill is really nice here as it knocks off four shields in just one turn. Some other useful skills for breaking phase two include the warrior’s Aggressive Slash, Ochette’s Headless Horseman provoke, and the cleric’s Mystical Staff.

Outside of having the right skills to break Audnvarg quickly, it’s also useful to debuff his physical attack. The scary part about Audnvarg is how hard he hits, but, when debuffed, this can be managed. Finally, consider having a dedicated party member just for healing to avoid any unnecessary KOs.

Tier 5: Priestess Hinoekagura

The final opponent to defeat the tower and obtain the Conjurer license in Octopath Traveler 2 is Priestess Hinoekagura. The priestess is a conjurer herself, has 200,000 HP, and is weak to Axe, Staff, Wind, and Light in Sword Form and weak to Spear, Bow, Ice, and Dark in Young Woman form. In Sword Form, she will use primarily use multi-hit physical attacks, and in Young Woman form she will primarily use elemental attacks.

Having the right skills to break both of her forms quickly is a must to survive this fight. If you can’t break her shields quickly, Hinoekagura will not only deal devastating damage but also use her SP-sapping skill. Having to constantly replenish SP and heal your party will leave you with fewer opportunities to break her shield and then this hopeless cycle will repeat. Not having good multi-hit skills that target Hinoekagura’s weaknesses makes this fight harder than it needs to be.

Some good skills to break her Sword form are Ochette’s Vagrant Frogking III provoke, the Armsmaster’s On the Hunt, the cleric’s Mystical Staff, and Hikari’s Wild Smash learned skill. Against Hinoekagura’s Young Woman form the best skills you can use are Hikari’s Spearfishing learned skill, Hikari’s Frenzied FIre learned skill, Ochette’s Island Frogking III provoke and the hunter’s Precise Shot.

Any party members who don’t have access to effective break skills should focus on support. It’s these party members that will be responsible for healing. buffing, and SP recovery. Castti with Apothecary/Cleric and Temenos with Cleric/Apothecary are both excellent fits for this role. Having a merchant is nice too, as they can donate BP to your party’s hard hitters after breaking Hinoekagura’s shield to better capitalize on the opportunity.

Receiving the Conjurer license in Octopath Traveler 2

Once Priestess Hinoekagura is defeated a cutscene will play where she compliments your strength. Seeing you as a suitable candidate for the Conjurer license she will hand it over officially unlocking the Conjurer secret job. Additionally, defeating her will complete the ‘A Tower of Trials’ side story which rewards 20,000 Leaves and x1 Conjurer’s Raiment.
